Fantasy Faire: Ombiasy Rakoto of the Owl Tribe

STORYLINE: In the treetops of Madagascar, nestled amongst the vibrant leaves and swaying branches, lies the colorful village of the Owl Tribe. Their shaman, known as Ombiasy Rakoto, had long white dreadlocked hair and white tribal markings on his purple skin. From his staff swung a shrunken skull, a symbol of his power and connection to the spirits. Perched on his shoulder was the watchful white owl Kijabe who acted as his eyes and ears. Together, they kept a vigilant watch over the village, protecting their people from the evil Unweaver. But one day, a darkness fell upon the village, and the Unweaver's shadow crept closer. With his people in danger, the shaman knew he had to act fast. Summoning all of his strength and magic, Rakoto and Kijabe set out to battle the Unweaver.

I was inspired by the wonderful and colorful Africa inspired sim, Khumbla. I haven't seen a sim quite like that before at Fantasy Faire, and I look forward to seeing more creations by Novus Ascending. Something else that blew me away, was the Dobs Witch Doctor Staff. This is no normal staff, ...sure it has several animations built in from hold poses, to magical spells, and knocking people on the head... but what really is next level, is animesh! It moves... fabric, ropes, feathers, and skull all swing gently in the breeze. Just a wonderful effect. It makes my mind hurt to consider how it was animated.  ....Because the tribe of Khumbla live in the trees, I had the idea to combine the idea with the Owl mask and Owl pet. 

Sadly the Faire is ending today, but there is a lot to celebrate. Once more, the Fantasy Faire lived up to all the hype and then some. It raised $119,536 USD for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Well done Faire organizers, designers, vendors, entertainers, shoppers, gamers, adventurers, and role players. Kudos to you all!

Fantasy Faire: The Sea Dragon's Adventure, 2

STORYLINE: As they swam, the three playful mermaids promised to show Kaiju, the Sea Dragon, something exciting when they arrived at the Fantasy Faire.   ....As they arrived at the Greek harbor of Nysaris, he noticed a large gathering of creatures on the beach. He heard a loud roar and turned to see a mighty land dragon towering over the crowd. Its wings were massive, and it breathed fire!    ....Kaiju was awe-struck. He had never seen such a creature before. The mermaids giggled at his reaction and explained that this was the famous dragon of Nysaris, known throughout the land for its power and grace. He watched in wonder as the dragon soared above the sea, its wings creating a powerful gust of wind. He knew he would never forget this moment and felt grateful to his mermaid friends for showing him such an incredible sight.

Game of Thrones nerds rejoice! Can you believe this wonderful fellow is for sale at the Fantasy Faire? Its so cool and fun!  It comes in many sizes and has a robust hud to change its textures, glows, alphas, materials, AO, custom textures, and many fun animations. You can spit fire, ice or water. Make a nest and lay eggs. Even little baby dragons will hatch!  (But let's not talk about the Dragon turd droppings complete with bones and flies. lol.)  You can even give your friends a ride! The picture was taken at the gorgeous ancient Greek city of Nysaris created by Harshlands and Belle Eqoque. Its just so awesome! I love the ambiance! I wish this sim would stay in SL forever or adventures and RP.

Fantasy Faire: The Sea Dragon's Adventure

STORYLINE: Kaiju, a young Sea Dragon, had been enjoying gem-combing on the ocean floor with his pet Sharkpoo when he heard the laughter of 3 women. He had never seen a mermaid before, and now there were three! He forgot all about collecting gems. The girls were so cute and excitedly talking about a great gathering of mythical creatures. He stalked them, always keeping himself well hidden. But once they were in open ocean, he couldn't hide anymore. They screamed. He screamed. And after many awkward apologies and reassurances he didn’t intend to eat them, he was invited to swim along on the journey to the Fantasy Faire! He was so excited. He looked up at the rippling surface of the water, and wondered what amazing sights he would see.

I have a confession to make, of all the years I have created characters for the faire, this guy is my favorite. He just looks amazing.  I took so many pictures, it was hard to pick only one. lol (Bonus image is below). His creation was inspired by the many fun and beautiful merfolk items at the Faire. For this post I would like to highlight, a New-to-me-store, Tonkatihead. The store is on the Isles of Aquarius sim, and is full of cute and adorable creations that really give that fun festival feel like  whale shark balloons, waving sharks, ... it was just so much fun. And its not animesh, so the land impact is pretty low.  The dragon in Seadragon is proviced by the Ambix Geode Dragon Horns, Animesh tail, and dragon bento wings. They come with a hud to change out the textures. For the tail and Wings, just right click them to bring up a menu to change the animations or for static poses. For the body tattoos, I layered the fun Forest Fantasy Store's Jellyfish with Soul's Agamidae. The colorful mohawk is by Ni.Ju and comes with a texture hud for a wide range of colors. The bang can be repositioned, and its Mod. The hair bases are also mod and come in a variety of styles. The gemstone earrings are by Vortech. I so wanted to get a great image of the Aii Riptide mertail, but it was tricky to show so many things at once. You see it in the bonus image below. The tail comes with a lot of textures, has animations built in and if you right click it, you can pick animations, and a great bonus the alternative  hip style. Its wonderful and has fits for all the major mesh bodies, male and female. This is the Best Male Mertail to date! 

Also, for "Mer May," SecondLife has released several mermaid themed last names. You can read more about it on the official forum.

Fantasy Faire: The Hunt in Basset Town

STORYLINE: Outside the dusty town of Basset was a sign that read, "Quarantine. Do Not enter." A Bounty Hunter known simply as D stopped and looked at it. A sickly person stumbled towards him. “You the Bounty Hunter? Half human, half monster killer?” D nodded and said nothing. “A suspicious looking fella came through last week, everyone he touched soon died. The rest of everyone is plum near dead or dying." He offered a burlap bag to D. “It's not much, but that’s everything we got. The whole town pitched in. So you can kill this thing, right?” D looked at his sad sunken face, then towards the town with many ghostly faces peeking out at him from their windows. “There's not much time left,” he said and without another word, rode off. A week had past before the Hunter returned. But everyone in Basset Town already knew he was successful. He was greeted with laughter and people running up to him, their cheeks now a more healthy color. "Don't celebrate too soon," he threw down the burlap bag and the head of the monster rolled out. “This fight is just beginning. The Unweaver is an evil seed that can take root and sprout again at anytime, anywhere. Be more careful and savor your lives.” And with that, he tipped his hat and rode out of town to the stunned silence of the townfolks.

Last call for the Fantasy Faire 2022! On May 11 at some point the Fairelands will disappear into the mists. Be sure to see and do everything you planned before the close!  This photo series is for my Mom, who had been undergoing surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation for cancer for the past 6 months. Her treatment ends this week. I feel grateful to her doctors, medical science, American Cancer Society, and all the kind hearts who donate to make a difference. If we care, and love each other, great things are possible.

P.S. I love Vampire Hunter D. There was no way I would not try to do a homage to it thanks to the awesome outfit by Quills & Curiosities at Fantasy Faire. Vampire Hunter D was my introduction to anime back in the 90s.

Fantasy Faire: The Stinging Bees of Opet

STORYLINE: Deep in the fertile Nile delta was an island paradise called Opet. The pharaoh created it to honor the givers of life in his realm, for without them there would be no future. It was a clean and safe place to give birth with good medical care in the teachings of Imhotep. But this was also the land of gods and demons. The people of Kemet took very seriously threats from evil creatures who could create illness or snatch infants. The most trusted members of Pharaoh's army, the Stinging Bees, were rotated in and out of Opet. The soldiers considered it a posh assignment, even a prestigious reward to guard so many pretty faces. The women often chose to marry their protectors. Captain Djoser was a ferocious fighter, but with one smile from the beguiling Priestess of Hathor, he became as weak as a kitten. They had planned to wed and start a family. But then the unthinkable happened. She was suddenly struck by a mystery illness. Djoser knew all to well the signs of a demon attack. He swore on a small golden idol of Hathor, he would find the Unweaver and force him to remove the curse from his beloved.

Fantasy Faire : The Hidden City of Tenpyo

STORYLINE: Hidden beyond a snowy pass deep in the Nippon mountains, was the twelve hundred year old city of Tenpyo, the capital of the Oni Lands. Beautiful. Regal. A place untouched by modern times. Here is a quick FAQ on Fantasy Faire off the top of my head.

**Q: What is the Fantasy Faire?**
A: Its an annual event hosted by the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Its like SL's World Cup or Super Bowl. It's HUGE! The theme is Fantasy (fiction, fashion, role play, decor, sim design, tabletop games, video games, anime/manga/comics, radio station, parties, art galleries, quest games, etc)

**Q: They raising funds?**
A: yes! All designers participating have an item for sale that is either a 100% donation or 50%. There is also a silent auction. Donations. And a Hud you purchase to play a quest game with stories, videos, and prizes. (note: A higher level hud includes an outfit for men and women). Last year in 2021 the Fantasy Faire in SL raised a new record, $95,178 in US Dollar (that's L$23,794,648 in Linden Dollars). So far this year after 8 days, the Fantasy Faire has raised $42,503 USD (that's 10,625,800L). Yes, I was not kidding when I said its huge! Relay for Life says of all their fund raising operations, SecondLife's Fantasy faire is by far the biggest fund raiser per money invested in an event. )

**Q: Ok! I want to see it, do I need to dress up in a costume?**
A: Come however you want, Fantasy allows for barely clothed styles, furries, city smashing giants, fairies, animal avatars, tiny kittens, robots, whatever you want as long as it's PG. But a word of  WARNING, the sims are very full of people and objects. To avoid lag, and enjoy the best experience, wear a low lag avatar, and work for graphic settings to keep frame rates up. **Q: What is there to do?**
A: Explore the 20 sims! Its very big deal to land a sim to decorate for the Fantasy Faire. Its SL's finest creating amazing fantasy settings. This my favorite part of the fair. I also enjoy people watching and making new friends. I have made many long lasting friends at the fair, good people too. You can also visit during live DJ shows and Live dance Performances. The Lit Sim has gatherings to talk about certain books and authors. Tabletop game tournament. Several sims have their own Hunts and Games. And the big game will start soon, you purchase a hud to play it. The first part usually requires hunting for objects hidden across the sims. The 2nd part takes place on the game sim, with puzzles. You can also shop like crazy. Lots of amazing stuff.

Fantasy Faire 2021: Khol Dracys

STORYLINE: Red embers drifted upwards in the smoke choked red sky above the hidden Canyon of Khol Dracys. Above the sound of the roaring wildfire, a bellowing screech suddenly echoed off the rocky cliffs. A terrifying sound not heard in over a thousand years. Villagers huddled tightly together in the town's central circle. A man towering over them on the village's sacred stone of the dead, shouted "Behold a dragon born of fire and ash!" He was dressed in the royal colors of House Targaryen. The villagers looked nervously at the eerie red flames consuming their homes, and then at strange animated bones of the long dead dragon, before returning to their unwelcome visitor who most certainly dug up the bones of the dragon their ancestors had slayed a millennia ago. What witchcraft was this? More importantly, how does one defeat something already dead? The mad Targaryen began to dance wildly to a tune only he heard, "Fire cannot kill a Dragon!" he said, and then repeated it many times. "Fire cannot kill a Dragon!" 

The Fantasy Faire is stunning this year, even bigger than last year with 20 sims!  And I'm happy to tell you the Shopping Guide has been updated based on all the feedback from past years. Fantasy Faire 2020: The Severed Garden

STORYLINE: "They are waiting to take us into the severed garden. Do you know how pale and wanton thrillful comes death on a strange hour? Unannounced, unplanned for like a scaring over-friendly guest you’ve brought to bed. Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooth as raven’s claws. No more money, no more fancy dress, this other kingdom seems by far the best. Until it’s other jaw reveals incest and loose obedience to a vegetable law. I will not go."  - The Severed Garden, Jim Morrison

The Fantasy Faire was a huge success this year, lots of fun was had by all and $73,572 USD was raised for Relay for Life. Congrats to 700+ Faire staff and designers who helped make this happen, and to all the Faireland visitors who enjoyed and donated. Well done!

Several elements from both the Engine Room and Fantasy Faire inspired this post. From the Engine Room is the Lux Hair from Raven Bell. It comes in multiple fits for men and women. The from and the back are separate, so you can combine hairs or color then separately. Included is a unrigged bow with its own texture hud. Matching up nicely with the hair is the Auxentios Pass version of the Atreus coat by Contraption, which was a Relay for Life item at the Fantasy Faire. The textures for it a wonderful, you can pick out what colors you want for different fabrics from the texture hud. From the Fantasy Faire is this wonderful garden by The Looking Glass. Below I have moving clip of one section of the garden and a view of the braid in the Lux Hair.

STORYLINE: The ear of Lion Guardsman twitched. He was perched high up on the shiny dark blue tile of the Lion's Gate. Far below him, the smooth limestone of Midas gleamed like gold. Oh if only he were a plant, he smiled to himself, this place would truly be paradise. But he was lion, and he was so thirsty. He looked beyond the long hanging vines spilling over the city's walls and pampered potted plants dotted town square. No, it was the gleam of water that caught the lion's eye. It was like a beautiful azure jewel in a setting of gold. It beckoned him. He licked his lips. Yes, it was his job to guard the Lion's Gate and raise the alarm if the Unweaver was sighted in the Fairelands, but surely it would be fine if he took a brief break to quench his thirst.

Fantasy Faire is back and just as wonderful, beautiful, exciting, and eventful as ever, -- it's not to be missed! Come and see what all the fuss is about and help raise money for Relay for Life. I love this event.

STORYLINE: Farion the pixie wasn't too sure of his quest companion at first. The wizard was shifty looking. But they soon bonded over their shared skintone and joked, "Team Blue to the Rescue!" Turned out the guy was good at hunting ingredients for the spell they needed to save the Bard Queen and he was even able to brew it himself. (Only a few mishaps, nothing serious like the massive explosion when Farion last tried potions.) They were too busy slapping high-fives after defeating a giant winged demon that they failed to realize, "defeated" is not the same "gone." Unknown to them, a tiny hitchhiker joined their group.

The Fantasy Faire is fading into fond memories now. I want to show you all one more picture of cool new releases, like these badass Bento wings by Spider Productions that come with poses, ao and feather tints & glows. I also want to give Kudos to the The Fairelands Quest: The Bard Queens Song. I adore the FF quests, and this year's little Pixie with a heavy Aussie accent, was a real charmer. Loved it.

Fantasy Faire 2017: The Crow Tengu

STORYLINE: There once was a young Crow Tengu who was told by his parents to stay away from humans, (the Tengu were forbidden from interfering in human affairs). But he simply could not obey the rules. His heart belonged to a little girl with a laugh that sounded like the call of crows. Adorable. To him, she was one of them, even if she had no feathers. It all started one day when he was out scouting the mountain. Tucked deep in the forest by a babbling brook, was a small human nest. There was a sickly looking girl sitting outside alone. Being curious, he flew down and asked her what she was doing. She explained she was gravely ill and her parents were both working hard to earn enough money to treat her illness. He shook his feathers in confusion at the difficulties of human rituals, but before he could ask about it, a rain of questions showered down on him. Since he liked the attention, he told her stories about himself, his people, and their oral history. She hung on his every word. Her eyes, which seemed so dull before, now sparked with life. So each day he would fly back to his number one fan and tell her a new story. By the time fall came, she had made a full recovery and would return to school. The crows too were preparing to fly south for the winter. With a big hug, she thanked him for keeping her spirits up. He fluffed out his chest in pride, and then plucked out one of his feathers to give her, "Always remember me." He felt sad their storytime was ending. She laughed her adorable crow laugh, said it was impossible for her to ever forget him. ...Many years later she wrote a best selling children's book, "The Many Wild and Wonderful Tales of the Crow Tengu."

Fantasy Faire: Angel of Blackmoor

STORYLINE: God's Warrior Angels were known for fighting against all forms of evil. It was Melchizedek who fought the Unweaver, the plague of cancer upon humanity. In garden of Blackmoor, each day he solemnly lit a candle for every soul who fell to the Unweaver. His life and memory were long, and it gave him strength to keep fighting.

One of the best events in SL is back, The Fantasy Faire! The Faire has 14 jaw droppingly gorgeous sims for you explore. There are daily roleplays, live performances, a quest adventure game, literary festival, Artwork, Djs, and of course shopping. This amazing, one of a kind, event is all about raising money for American Cancer Society Relay for Life to fight caner. Good news! Introducing this year is a Pinterest Shopping-Catalogue-2016 for the Fantasy Faire. The guide was put together by a team of volunteers (including yours truly) to make your shopping easier. Each picture includes the store, item name, and Surl to where you can find the item. (Note: The Shopping Guide shows only the Relay for Life donation vendors, so its only a sample of the many things at the faire.)

The picture above was taken at the beautiful Blackmoor sim. (Love it so much, I want to live there!) You can read more about Blackmoor's creation by Lokii Violet here. I knew it would be the perfect setting for the Wizard outfit by W-Zero. (Fans of the Trinity Blood anime should definitely check it out!) It includes outfit, staff, and hat. There is a male and female version.  From Soul is the Ranitomeya {tera SE} skin. Its a purple skin with fun golden spots and patterns on it. It includes appliers for TMP, Slink, Adam, Catwa, and Omega. There is a male and female version also. From Winry's Whimsey is the Dragon/Gecko eyes. These eyes come with a hud that make it possible to fit the default avi, mesh heads, and even furry avatars! Charity News: Key of Hope Hunt, Alli, World Goth Fair, Avea Heartsick

UPDATE:  Avea Heartsick makes beautiful skin textures for men, women, and femboys. When word got out her computer had died and she would have to close shop, people rallied around her and the fund drive was born. 42 stores have donated products. There are even fantasy shapes, poses, and tattoos for the guys. (In the picture above I am wearing Avea's Neo Candy tattoo, 75L. The Final Chapter of Madpeas's Key of Hope hunt has begun. If you missed the first part of the hunt that ran during the Fantasy Faire, no problem, you can get a hud for the 2nd part for 150L. Head to the Valley of IshNar, solve puzzles, and defeat the evil Prince to win prizes by many of the Fantasy Faire participating stores! Hunt ends May 19th.

News Event: Fantasy Faire

Fantasy Faire is an awe inspiring charity event for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. 12 breath taking sims. Each stuffed full of cool items for sale. Silent and live auctions. And get this, there is even a MadPeas hunt, the Key of Hope Hunt. Even if fantasy is not your thing, you have to see it. Trust me on this on one. You'll met some nice people there, but the Faire lasts only one week. Yes you heard that right, all these amazing builds and it ends so soon like a butterfly that lives only a few days. Fantasy Faire ends April 28.

On the picture above. I am wearing one of the two outfits for sale at Fantasy Faire by FateWear. It's a total outfit including the boots and comes with or without the cloak. Wasabi pills has released a cool new long hair style for men at the Faire. The eyes I am wearing are a new release at the Gallery Gift Shop from Tableau Vivant. These eyes have an otherworldly look, perfect for Fantasy characters. The bow and arrow is by GTS. It can shoot a poison, smoke, or flaming arrow, set your friends on fire in a fire trap. It also shoots a grappling hook. Once the arrow is embedded into whatever you wish to scale, you grab the rope and shimmy on up. Wicked cool. GTS is also at the Fantasy Faire. And I have for tip for you too, there are even some great freebies at their main store: the Daredevil Bow, Holy Sword, and Short and Long Kilt.

On the inset pictures, you can see the wizard outfit also by Fatewear. The next two pictures are from Garden of Dreams. The Airship is 32 prim and flyable! Normally priced 1500L, on sale at the faire for 200L. And the library is a set I have been drooling on. When I saw it was for sale at the fair for only 400L when it's normally 2500L, I zipped over there really fast! lol The next picture shows free skins at the fair for male and female in two colors. If the sims are laggy, wear those and giggle about being almost nude as you steak through the forests. Have fun Streakers!
