The Strange Case of Dr Oliver Paynesworth

Death Row Designs will be delivering another fun gacha and hunt for Halloween this year. The theme this time is Asylum. This is my entry to DRD's the "Join the Family" contest. I brought out one of my favorite asylum dwelling characters. Enjoy. Style Credits below the story.

The Strange Case of Dr Oliver Paynesworth 

(as told by the Admitting Nurse at the Rosewood Asylum)

It had been an ordinary day at the Rosewood Asylum when the town’s respected general practice doctor, Dr Oliver Paynesworth, strolled past me without a word, not even a Hello, and disappeared down the long of hall of Rosewood’s worst behaved residents, otherwise known as the "inmates." Of course I went to fetch him, since we don’t allow visitors to that wing of the asylum. 

I discovered him in the oddest place. He had taken the last room to the right and barricaded the door with the back of a chair so that I could not open it. I looked through the glass peephole and saw him, just sitting in the middle of the room on the floor with a vacant look in his eyes.

“Excuse me Dr Oliver, What are you doing? Is there something wrong?”

He didn’t look at me as he said in a hallow voice, “I am admitting myself. I am a danger to society. Please leave me alone.”

Alarmed, I fetched the director of the Institution. He spoke to the Doctor for some time before he came back out shaking his head. “Nurse, can you please check into this?” He had filled out a form to accept Dr Oliver and wrote that the Dr believed he could kill with a mere thought. He blamed himself for his fiancé’s death after she broke up their engagement. He wanted me to call her doctor to check if the story was true. 

Dr Oliver’s case turned out to be a sad example of the ravages of grief, most likely driven by intense regret that his last words to his fiancé were, "I hope you die." Turns out she had just discovered her diagnosis of terminal cancer and couldn’t bring herself to tell him, so she abruptly broke off their engagement without explanation. We figured after some grief counseling, and revealing the truth of why she ended their relationship, he would return to normal. But sadly, that’s not what happened.

One day we found him in a pool of blood. He had cut off his own legs with exceptional surgical skill. What he used, we have no clue, but it must have been a very large sharp blade. We searched high and low for this dangerous weapon but could never discover where he had hidden it. He was ranting on and on about offering his legs to Death in exchange for bringing his beloved back to life.

He had clearly taken a turn for the worse. 

We were able to stop the bleeding. Once he had recovered, we gave him a wheelchair and fitted him with new prosthetic legs. I think Dr Rosewood held hope he could save his old friend.

As the months passed, Dr Oliver would sit on the floor, not eating, or speaking…. Other "inmates" requested to be transferred away from his unsettling dark aura. Except one. She requested to be moved directly across from him. In truth, she was here because she was in so much pain her family couldn't care for her. She was often yelling across the hall, begging Dr Oliver to kill her. If he heard her, I don’t know. He was covered in dust by then. Cobwebs hung from his eyelashes too. I thought he was long dead and everyone was too scared to go in and check.

But he was not dead.

The morning on the 19th, I discovered front door of the Rosewood Asylum was open. No "inmates" escaped. No, instead they were all yelling, crying, and cowering their rooms. When I reached the last door on the right, it was open. Dr Oliver was gone. There was no sign of him. I checked across the hall and the lady was still locked inside her room. No one entered, but she was clearly dead. White as a sheet. And smiling.

It was creepy. We closed off that cursed wing of Rosewood. No one ever did see Dr Oliver Paynesworth again. The only clue we had as to what became of him was a note left on the floor.

Wizarding Faire 2020: Ambush at the Gamekeepers Lair

STORYLINE: Hagrid was awoken by a sudden freak chill in the summer night air. He was grabbing his thickest blanket when he heard a loud bang in the other room followed by the startled squawks of the baby hippogriffs. "Off! Off! Get off me!" The home invader was none other than sixth year student Fennimore who was busy waving his wand wildly. "Hagrid! HAGRID! Help me!" Fennimore was firing off ill-thought spells in an attempt to loosen the grip of the snake coiled tight around him. "Easy now. Don' yeh worry, Fenny. Once ye stop all that yippin', she'll relax. She's more scared then yew, and twice as cold."

The Wizarding Faire is back! Grab your brooms, don your house colors and race down to Mischief Managed to see all the wonderful creations. Hooray! This post was inspired by Second Spaces' Game Keeper Clutter, and these two wonderful creatures, the pygmy hippogriff by banana peel, and wearable animesh ohcami by Clover.

I just love this event and Mischief Managed. Its one of the best roleplay sims in SL. The details with so many rooms, areas, places, and mysteries and secret passages... its just a dream. You could spend days just exploring it. The role players are all great people with a passion for the story. So many good times are had, and players progress through the school years, and some become teachers themselves. They recently expanded and added a 2nd sim. The Little Fountain Visitor

STORYLINE: A mist rolled slowly into the sleeping village. Tomorrow would be a buzz of activity during the summer festival, but for tonight the air was calm with only an occasional cricket chirp, or croak of a lonely frog. Stalking silently in the tall grass was the Little Lion, protector of the village. It was hard work keeping the rats away so the big event would run smoothly, but quiet moments like this made it worth it for the tiny fierce hunter. She sprung up with ease on top of her favorite place, the rock water fountain in the garden. From her perch, the Little Lion surveyed her territory. Then smiled in her own catlike way for a job well done, and took a drink.

Waking Quetzalcoatl

STORYLINE: Drip, drip, drip. The passage of time was like the steady drip of water into his tomb. The Temple of the Moon had long since been forgotten. Thick jungle vines covered it's secret entrance. Unknown to him, the legend of the Feathered Serpent had become something he would barely recognize. He remembered the frantic prayers of the lake people. They called him Quetzalcoatl and begged him to strike down the false god, Cortez. But still he slept. Meddling in the affairs of humans is how he came to be in this cursed sleep. ...However, today was different. Cautious footsteps of a trespasser echoed in his maze. Trap after trap was sprung. He chuckled to himself. He had created many delicious ways for fools to die. There was a loud bang followed by a sharp metal swish. The scent of blood wafted in the damp air. He licked his parched lips. Had it been 4000 years since he last drank blood? He felt sad his entertainment was over. Wait. His eyes snapped opened. The steps were continuing. This could be no human. Who dared to invade his lair?!

STORYLINE: Vladislav used to be extremely powerful. He could hypnotize crowds of people. Great orgies. He could turn into all sorts of animals. He would kill anybody. Men, women. children. Burning... everything. But he suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of his arch nemesis, the Beast. And, he's never been the same. It all started with an unbreakable love spell. The Beast was talented in Voudou, ... a little too talented. Now the two of them are locked in an everlasting war that burned just as hot in love as hate. One moment their yelling would make the walls shake, the next those same walls were taking a pounding.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! If you are still looking for a gift for your sweetheart, be sure to not miss Objets D'Amour.  This series had 2 inspirations. The first was the Emprean Forge gacha, the Dollmaker's Fetish at Objects D'Amour. The necklace, bracelet, and ring are all beautifully made and I love being able to pick up some EQ on my limited budget.  The second is from Pucca Firecaster over at Fantasy Gacha is the fun PFC bones accessories, great for Voodoo girls or guys.  Over at Madpeas is a wonderfully witty Voodoo Valentine gacha. Seriously, I was shooting this picture when I got a notice about this gacha. Perfect timing! Each unfortunate Voodoo Doll in love meets his demise when you touch him. The Pleasure Palace: The Opium's Curse

STORYLINE: There was defeat in victory. The Cursed A.N.G.E.L was bleeding badly. He needed blood, lots of it. He was delirious. He had already ripped EVA limb from limb, and still he battled on. He attacked spectators blindly, but the blood of genetically engineered humans could not satisfy him. The thirst drove him to more and more horrific acts of violence. Standing calm in sea of screeching people was a man with a dart gun. He knew the Cursed A.N.G.E.L's weakness. A dart soon found it's mark, and the A.N.G.E.L collapsed. ..."Opium. God, why did it have to be opium?" he moaned. He hated that crap. Opium cursed him. If only he hadn't been so damn high on that moonless night long ago, he would have realized from where that bump-in-the-night came, and ran like hell.

ROMP is a fantastic new event for adults with the slogan of "elegant kink." That's right, the best of SL designer's have created new quality products to spice up your sexy time. Don't miss it! For my first post on ROMP, I am showing the Slingback chair by CerberusXing. It comes in teal, pink, black, beige, and purple. Each chair comes with hud will change the silk drap texture and you can also edit tint it like I did above. The chair has 7 single animations, 9 cuddle animations for couples, 5 cuddle animations for a threesome, and the adult version has 9 animations for couples, and 7 animations for threesomes. All poses are adjustable and can save your settings. Land impact of 10. ... The silky heart shaped bed is by Bauwerk. You can get it in PG and Adult. The PG version has 27 single animations, and 38 couple animations.  All poses are adjustable and can save your settings. Land impact of 14. ... Other pieces in the settings are the Kumotori Bath house with purple orchid. I tweaked the textures on it to remove all symbols on the rice paper. The Madpeas bonsai to the right is from the past round of The Arcade. Outside is the Enchanted Pond by Studio Skype and the Dysfunctional Designs Fenghuang Statue.

Now a little more about what we are wearing. Aarya returns to BishieStyleSL for a cameo as the vampiress who created the Cursed A.N.G.E.L. I wish her a speedy recovery from surgery and hopefully she can return to blogging soon. Her outfit is by Barerose, hair by Truth, skin by Glam Affair, and pet Shiro is a gacha by Aii. ... You'll have to forgive me for mixing styles here. The Ao Dai by Barerose comes with pants, but who needs those? *throws away* lol Besides, look at these excellent shoes by BOOM. They have a materials' suede look to them you can see in advanced lighting. They are sale at Collabor88 for only 88L and come in girls and guys and many colors options. The Runaway hair Darcy is from Manga Fair. I love the bangs, and though it's meant for girls, it works perfectly on the guys too! The smoking pipe is fun older item by Rozoregells and it contains several poses with the pipe, like I used above. The dark headdress is from Latex Web and was past gift. I combined it with the TAMA Japanese Lantern hairsticks from a past Genre round. The pearl necklace is from Monster and has several strands. It comes with a resize script. The arm wraps are by Dark Prophet Designs from a past Fantasy Gacha. ... ok, I will be bringing you more of the ongoing story from Cursed A.N.G.E.L, and more great things from ROMP!

Madpea Writing Contest: THE DEATH VOTE

Madpeas held their first creative writing contest. The goal was to write about Death Row Island for a Halloween hunt and writers had only 5 days to do it. Many stories were submitted, but only one can win. There are also prizes for 2nd and 3rd place. Since there are so many great stories, each day one of the stories submitted will be published on the Madpea blog leading up to the Halloween hunt starting Oct 6th. My story was published on the Madpea blog today (warts and all! *blush*). I assume that means it was not picked. Loosing is sad for me personally of course, but it is also exciting for me as a hunter because whichever story did win, it will to be amazing and created by a new super talent who has just been discovered!

Deep in the Pacific Ocean there is a floating pile of garbage twice the size of the United States. It's within the center of this swirling mass that civilization's other trash is held: terrorists, murderers, and the criminally insane. Death Row Island, as it is called, serves as a secret prison where the government can make certain undesirable people disappear, no questions asked.

Good start, right? Well, it gets weaker after that. lol. Good critique is necessary to improving one's skill! Fire away!

Now more details about the story.... I had no idea what to write at first. Often when it comes to creative problem solving, you need to avoid your first thought and instead reach deeper. I spent three and half days thinking only about concept. Afterall, an island of criminals is not a trip to Disney World. lol. My idea of the Death Vote (literally being voted off the island) was my first idea. Maybe it was good, or maybe it was bad. lol I had three false starts. The characters were such horrible people, I lost interest in writing this story. (This is not one serial killer like in normal Madpea games, but all of them!) There had to be an angle that made it worth the effort. When I hit upon an idea to turn the doctor from criminally insane to innocent young college student, all the pieces fell into place. Sadly, once I had worked out the major problems, I had only one day to write it. This story truly needed much more time to flesh out, but maybe it's a good thing the deadline was only 5 days so it cut me off from spinning my wheels on a concept that might not have been the right one for a Madpeas hunt. It does matter to me I didn't give up. I was so relieved when I hit that send button.

Madpeas: The Lennon Park Massacre

STORYLINE: Summer Camp was supposed to be fun. But people went missing. At first it was only one camper, then another, and another. It didn't take much brains to know there was foul play. That night, Dave was woken by his dog's warning bark. If it weren't for his trusty dog, he would have been a goner for sure! A heavy tree almost hit him in his sleep. Someone chopped that tree down on purpose to fall on top of his tent. He was lucky he got only a few bumps and bruises.

Captured Butterfly

STORYLINE: She spent her charmed life like a butterfly, flitting gently from one nightclub to next. She was a beautiful songstress with the voice of an angel. She was never for want of money or love. She seemed to have the best luck. That is, until one stormy night she stepped into the Peacock Hotel never to be seen again. No one knows what happened that night. She is presumed dead, but her body was never found. Even today on dark stormy nights, the ghosty voice of this captured butterfly can be heard once again echoing in the halls.

Is this hat by Frozen Hat cool or what? Love the spiderwebs and butterflies. It comes is several colors too. The dress is by Panda Express and was on last month's We Love Roleplay round for nice sale price. The inworld store has even more colors. Is this Madpea's Madcity sim goreious or what? It's stunning.  And I have some Madpeas news, on August 1st there will be a sequel to the Room 326 hunt, called The Cry of the Peacock. It will have new prizes, new stores, and new challenges. HUNT NEWS: The Return of Room 326

Mad City by the Madpeas opens today and runs until the end of the month. This hunt brings back the gorgeous Peacock Hotel by Never Totally Dead and the fantastic downpour of Madpea Noir. The cityscape is expanded with a larger city block and a park with open dancefloor. Many places for cool photo ops.

And for your burning questions about Mad City, here's a direct reply from Momma Pea herself and Yuna Khaos:

Charity News: Key of Hope Hunt, Alli, World Goth Fair, Avea Heartsick

UPDATE:  Avea Heartsick makes beautiful skin textures for men, women, and femboys. When word got out her computer had died and she would have to close shop, people rallied around her and the fund drive was born. 42 stores have donated products. There are even fantasy shapes, poses, and tattoos for the guys. (In the picture above I am wearing Avea's Neo Candy tattoo, 75L.
