Cyber Fair: The Scoop of the Century 1 (Escape from Club Apophis, 44)

STORYLINE:
Mission objective: Get Dirt on MasterGin. Destroy Monstrum.
Team: Solo. Hexa Herald Investigative Journalist / Influencer.
Location: GIN AESTHETICA™ plastic surgery clinic.

Lisa pressed her back against the cold, sterile wall of the VIP clinic corridor. Somewhere behind her, Kyra was lying on a crisp white bed with her chrome skull-plating unlatched. Diagnostic arrays jacked directly into her exposed mechanical brain, pulsing with cold data instead of life. No blood. Only the flickering, phantom glint of synthetic pathways.

Her long-time best friend.

Seeing under Kyra's hood wasn't the worst part. The worst part was realizing how much of her had always been hidden, and how little Lisa had ever thought to look. The girl she grew up with was buried somewhere deep inside all that hardware, and Lisa could no longer find her.

She was the same girl who had followed her into hell just because Lisa wanted a scoop.

Lisa squeezed her eyes shut. One tear cut a clean line through the sewer grime on her cheek. Just one.

Then she shoved the grief into a mental locker, slammed the heavy iron door, and threw away the key. Sadness didn't pull views. Sadness didn't dismantle a corrupt, blood-sucking empire. She was Lisa Liemawr of the Hexa Herald, professional chaos correspondent, and she was going to burn MasterGin's pristine world to the ground. She needed dirt.

But first, she needed a camera.

She slipped down the immaculate hallway. An Enforcer stepped from the shadows, his heavy hand clamping onto her arm.

Time to activate Slippery-Bar-of-Soap mode.

Lisa went limp, twisted her shoulder to break his grip, swiped the Halophone right off his tactical belt, and was three steps down the corridor before he even processed the theft. She bounced into an open elevator, slamming the override. The doors sealed, and the car plummeted at breakneck speed.

Lisa raised the stolen Halophone, tapped the screen, and flashed her signature grin.

“That’s right, Dragonlets! Your favorite reporter is back! Today's sponsor is Poor Decision Making™, and apparently we're going for the platinum subscription.”

She let out a quiet, forced laugh.

The elevator chimed. The doors slid open. She bolted out, rounding the corner with her camera raised.

The next three doors were wide open. She filmed the empty passage, her eyes darting across the screen.

“How suspiciously helpful is that? But Lisa doesn't look gift doors in the mouth!"

Down the hall, another elevator chimed. It was coming down. Someone was following her.

“Ruh-roh.”

The overhead lights flickered, buzzing with a sharp electric whine.

A heavy mechanical thud echoed through the gleaming marble floor.

Then, total darkness.

Emergency lights flickered on, bathing the corridor in a sickly, blood-red glow.

“To the unknown person of awesomeness,” she whispered to the ceiling, giving a crisp salute. “Your hack skills are Amaze. Whoever you are, I owe you a coffee.”

Then, she smelled it.

Clove smoke.

She spun the camera around and waved to the faint tendrils of smoke with feverishly bright eyes.

“Yo Yo Yo, it's your girl Lisa Liemawr, making yet another series of decisions my future therapist is going to hate. This newshound just caught a scent!” She did a crazed happy dance. “Let’s see where this cursed yellow brick road leads.”

The spiced scent hung heavy in the stale air. She raced after it, going deeper and deeper underground.

She stopped.

The silence was absolute. The guards were entirely gone now. The smoke was stronger here. Thicker.

The camera dipped just for a second.

"Hey, Ky." Her voice dropped out of the influencer register entirely. "If you're out there somewhere... I'm coming. This whole operation, the story, all of it. That's for you. Because you followed me in here, and you never once asked if it was worth it, and I never once said thank you."

She stared at the faint red light lining the hall.

"I'm saying it now. Thank you. And also, I'm sorry. And also,” she paused, “we're getting out."

She raised the camera back up. The grin returned, just a little less polished than before.

"Okay! Emotional moment over. Back to committing corporate espionage against a centuries-old vampire."

She rounded the final corner.

This place had the quiet confidence of somewhere ordinary people were never meant to enter. It looked exactly like a place that needed to get broken into.

Lisa pushed open a pair of heavy doors and stopped dead.

The phone dropped a fraction.

Rows upon rows of polished machines stared back like an audience waiting for the curtain to rise.

Silence.

"Oh my cyber-soul," she breathed.

Then her chin lifted.

“Jackpot, Dragonlets. It’s your girl Lisa Liemawr reporting live from inside the belly of the beast. No signal down here, but Lisa films anyway, because that's just what a Lisa does.”

She winked and flashed a victory sign.

“I’m a hundred and fifty feet under the center of the Forbidden Zone.” She gestured dramatically downward. “Exactly where I traced the threatening phone call from that nasty, chain-smoking vampire himself: MasterGin.”

She panned the camera around the vast space.

“But Lisa, what is this place? A museum exhibit? No! It’s a storage room of white marble and gold trim. Like even Mr. Diva’s storage rooms need to be beautiful. Compulsive much?”

Her camera swept across the room to reveal her entire bot army. The seven flawless avatars. The reporter drones. All the tech MasterGin had confiscated when his lawyers raided her apartment.

“He sued me for selling merch. Took all my gear. Shut me down. I thought he destroyed it all. But he kept them. He kept them like trophies.”

Her eyes landed on the centerpiece.

"M10?"

The little reporter bot rested perfectly still, powered down but completely restored. MasterGin had fried him with a casual flick of his electrical claws back at Jae Won Stadium. But M10 was whole now. Better than whole. He had little mechanical arms and legs. His glossy blue chassis gleamed.

“I don’t get it. Why rebuild a broken drone?”

She lowered the phone. Her reporter brain was already running the math.

"Intel," she whispered. "His lawyers didn't just confiscate you, M10. They must have rebuilt you to mine my data. My sources. My network."

A violet glow leaked around the edges of the bot's LED face screen, pulsing with a sinister low hum that made the hair stand on the back of her neck.

“Shit.” Her head dropped.

All her bots were now running on the Zone’s cursed energy. Even if she managed to steal them back somehow, they were corrupted.

Every broadcast she'd ever made. Every source she'd ever protected. Every face she'd hidden behind an avatar. He had it all.

She stood very still.

Then she lifted her head and forced a tight smile into the Halophone.

“I think I'm going to cry, which is very off-brand, so let's not.”

In the corner, propped against the marble wall like it belonged there, was a baseball bat. Black chrome and neon. The word LATHANDRO burned along the barrel.

She had sold unlicensed merch with that name. Sold it on five continents.

She stepped closer. There was fire damage on it. Her hand trembled as she studied the charred outline of fingers that once held it.

She hadn't thought about that since the day everything went up in flames. Jihoon with cleats, a drool-worthy batting average, and a million dollar smile.

Her guy was supposed to be the next biggest thing in college baseball.

A thick hiss of smoke seeped under the far door.

She zoomed in. As the smoke thickened, a silhouette materialized in the haze.

"Oh, hell naw," Lisa muttered, backing away from M10.

Plumes of smoke began rolling across the marble floor. The scent of clove hit her like a physical blow, thick and suffocating.

“Guess who, everyone,” she announced.

The silver hair. The cigarette. The posture that should be wrong but isn't.

“If you guessed it’s your not-so-favorite chain-smoking Discount Dracula, you win a prize. M10, tell them what they won! …Trauma. The answer is trauma.”

The figure in the rolling cloud moved.

“Wait."

She squinted through the haze.

“…Jihoon?"

He stepped forward with liquid confidence. Silver hair spilling over his shoulders. A clove cigarette pinched effortlessly between his fingers.

But his eyes were the wrong color. They were calm in a terrifying, ancient way. And he smiled at her with a poised, million-dollar smirk. It was exactly the way MasterGin smiled at things he already owned.

The heavy doors behind Lisa slammed shut, the locks engaging with a heavy metallic clack. Then the door behind him hissed open, revealing a paranoid nerve center. Floor-to-ceiling monitors bathed the luxurious room in a cold, phantom-blue glow. Hundreds of live surveillance feeds flickered across the screens.

He gestured dramatically for her to join him inside.

“Do come in. That is, unless you really don’t want the scoop of the century.”

Continuing with Cyberpunk Character Card theme, in this post Lisa Liemawr takes over.   ....Lathandro's baseball bat makes a reappearance with Masoom Plasma Muse Bat. Camp Syndicate: The Parasitic Barrier (Escape from Club Apophis, 25)

STORYLINE: ...10 MINUTES EARLIER

The forest at the edge of the Forbidden Zone wasn’t quiet; it was rejected. No insects chirped. No wind stirred the pines. Only the cold, high-voltage hum of hungry silence remained.

Echo crouched in the dirt, breath misting. Her purple-striped sleeves brushed a carpet of dead needles. Behind her, the clearing glowed feverish green under the team’s work lights—drones, signal poles, and weapon packs scattered around the steel crate that held the Black Snakeskin Box. They looked less like students and more like a cult preparing to storm hell.

Ghost didn’t speak; he just acted.

“Comms test, G-3,” he signed with his Halo-gloves, hefting an insulated pole topped with a transmitter. He eased it forward until it breached the shimmering boundary of the Forbidden Zone.

The transmitter’s green light died the instant it crossed the perimeter.

Plague gave a low whistle. “Physics just quit. Another billion credits gone. Stellar start.”

Echo’s jaw tightened. She despised failure. Order bending into nonsense set her on edge.

She brushed past Ghost, pulling items from her pack.

“Experiment E-1.” She tossed a high-powered flashlight. It died mid-air. Then her phone—its screen went black before it hit the ground.

Last, she produced a small pink plastic ’80s Swatch, wound it, and tossed it into the Zone like a sacrifice.

It landed among the dead leaves, still ticking. Smug old tech. Alive.

“It’s selective,” Echo murmured. “Not an EMP, not a jammer. It’s eating everything with a current.”

Plague snorted, gesturing to the pile of dead gear. “Great. And we brought a picnic.”

“No,” Minjo corrected. Her eyes shifted from her dead console to the steel crate. “It eats human power.”
The glint in her gaze sharpened as she focused on the Black Snakeskin Box. “So, let’s feed it something else.”

She unlatched the crate. Inside, the sinister box pulsed with a faint, oily light. This wasn't tech, at least nothing Minjo could understand. It was a core of impossible energy, a spark that could power quantum entanglement from a container the size of a heart.

“I’ve failed to interface with it,” she admitted, rare defeat roughening her tone. “It has no code. It... resists analysis.”

Echo stared at the exposed core. It seemed to throb in time with their movements.

“Wait,” she whispered. “I think it’s been watching us. Laughing each time we fail.”

“A trolling multidimensional power source. Perfect.” Plague flipped a bird at the core, which flashed in response.

Minjo and Echo exchanged a glance.

“Alright,” Minjo said, slipping from analysis to command. “Echo, you’re the empath. Try luring it into the containment unit.”

Echo swallowed. The task felt right—like it had chosen her. The Core was less a device than a feral animal.

She pulled her retro datapad from her pack—a lavender relic with a green phosphor screen. Laying a palm on the Box, she ignored the feel of cold, scaled skin and linked the pad.

The screen flared—not with static, but with alien glyphs that writhed like serpents under glass. The Box was speaking: a language of pure, hungry curiosity.

Then the glyphs resolved. Two lines appeared on either side of the screen, and a single pixel bounced between them.

A small smile touched Echo's lips. “You guys aren’t going to believe this. I think it’s trying to play PONG.”

A ball of light bounced off one edge of the screen and headed for her side. She returned it, and the glyphs blinked in what looked like a smile.

“We can play, but first we need to get you into your new home. Easy now,” she murmured, guiding the datapad. The Core, trusting her now, followed the pad’s pull like a charmed snake. It levitated, humming, and slid into the brass-and-crystal housing Minjo had built.

“I have it,” Echo breathed, a surge of triumph cutting through the dread. “It’s contained. The unit is sealed.”

The moment the seal clicked shut, the serpentine glyphs swirled and bounced the digital ball to her again. She laughed in delight.

Then suddenly, the ball froze mid-play. The glyphs scattered, racing in panic, then coiled into tight, defensive knots, -- as if bracing for an unseen strike.

The air changed, as if the world itself were holding its breath.

Echo felt it before she saw it: the sense of being watched. The scent of rust and something sickeningly sweet, like burnt sugar.

A new awareness crawled up her spine, different from the Zone’s vague hunger. This wasn’t a diffuse threat. This was focused, predatory attention.

Reflected in the dark glass of her datapad, a new reflection joined her own.

It was pale. It was smiling.

Her breath caught.

She looked up, -- just as the Ice Cream Man brought the hammer down.

He didn’t strike her.

The heavy, worn hammer crushed the containment unit. The Core fractured.

It didn’t explode. It unleashed.

A giant shadow-serpent, a thing of pure, lightless rage, tore itself free from the broken housing. It shrieked, a psychic howl that rattled Echo’s teeth. A tornado of darkness ripped through the clearing as hundreds of smaller shadows were sucked from the trees, swirling around the serpent as it grew, raging in a vortex of dust, leaves, and smoke.

Then, as fast as it had appeared, the serpent shot past them, a black comet streaking deep into the Forbidden Zone.

Silence fell.

Ghost had already moved, placing himself between the students and the intruder, hand on his sidearm.

The Ice Cream Man didn’t move. He simply pointed his hammer in the direction the serpent had gone. His voice was muffled and hollow behind the porcelain mask.

“It returns to its master,” he said. “Your cursed friend, Yoon Jihoon, is that direction.”

The words hit them like a physical blow.

“What?” Minjo whispered, her scientific certainty shattering. “Who… who are you?”

The Ice Cream Man lifted his free hand to his face. With a soft click, he unhooked the mask and let it fall.

He wasn’t human. His face was sharp and pale, a smile that was too wide, with teeth that looked like they could crack bone, and his eyes burned with a feral amber light.

“I am Hwan, Guardian of the Barrier,” he said, voice now clear and cold, like gravel and frost. “And you’re not going anywhere, not without a real guide.”

Cyber Fair: The Key (Escape from Club Apophis, 18)

STORYLINE: The night was supposed to be quiet. A simple, solemn walk to the hospital, the three of them moving through the late-night stillness of New Seoul. But the city had other plans. A siren wailed in the distance, then another, their cries tangling into a chorus of panic. Hover-cars, sleek and official, roared overhead, their searchlights cutting anxious paths through the smog toward the Forbidden Zone.

Ghost, walking a step ahead, stopped dead. His holo-pad flickered to life, projecting a frantic, glitching emergency stream from the HEXA Herald.

On the screen, Lisa Liemawr’s face was a mask of terror and adrenaline. “—life on the line to bring you the truth while I still can!” The camera feed spun wildly, revealing the cramped interior of a speeding EV. A barely conscious Kyra was slumped in the passenger seat, and at the wheel, Kyle Baek cursed as he wrenched the vehicle around a corner.

“What the hell!” Plague spat, his gaze snapping from the chaotic feed to the flashing lights now visible just a few blocks away.

Lisa’s voice crackled, distorted by signal interference. “Reporting live from the edge of the Forbidden Zone! It’s not radioactive! There are no biohazards! That’s right, folks—it’s all a government lie!”

Through the feed, they could hear the amplified, metallic voice of law enforcement booming from a bullhorn: “PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY.”

“What’s really inside the Zone is monsters!” Lisa screamed over the engine’s whine. “The government has a pact with them! Our boy, Yoon Jihoon—he’s the first person to escape that place alive, and they set him on fire for it!”

The friends stared at each other, the wild accusation hanging in the air. Spontaneous combustion. A secret pact with monsters. It was insane. But the image of Jihoon, broken and burning in the baseball diamond, made it impossible to dismiss.

“I’m sorry, Dragonlets,” Lisa pleaded, her voice breaking. “I was a coward, but not anymore! I have proof! I recorded the whole call when I was being blackmailed to cover up the truth. It was none other than Dr. Ginevra—”

The stream died. The screen went black.

Ghost’s hologram gloves flashed, projecting his urgent signs into the air. “GIN AESTHETICA.”

At the far end of the street, a blockade of enforcement vehicles materialized, their lights painting the asphalt in strobing reds and blues. Lisa’s EV screeched around the corner, hurtling directly toward them.

What happened next was a blur of metal and motion.

A lone figure stepped out from the blockade, impossibly tall and broad-shouldered. He faced the oncoming car alone and raised a single, commanding hand. The universal sign to stop.

Kyle swerved. The EV’s tires shrieked as it clipped the curb, launched into the air, and rolled twice before crashing into a ditch with a gut-wrenching crunch of metal.

Echo screamed as Kyra’s broken form was thrown clear of the wreckage. Without thinking, she sprinted toward her.

Kyra hit the asphalt hard, a discarded cyborg doll. Her severed lower leg leaked a trail of inky black fluid. Echo dropped to her knees beside her, hands trembling. “Kyra! Don’t move—”

The cybernetic cheerleader coughed, spitting a glob of black fluid that gleamed like oil in the strobing lights. Her optic sensors glitched, filling with static. With a final, desperate effort, she pressed something sharp and tiny into Echo’s palm.

“The key…” she whispered, her voice a corroded rasp. “Protect it.”

It was a chip—wafer-thin and faintly warm. Echo’s stomach lurched. She fumbled inside her jacket and pulled out a small plastic sleeve containing one of her own scavenged data chips. Her hands shook, but the motion was pure instinct. She switched her old chip with Kyra’s inside the protective case.

The ground vibrated with heavy footfalls. A shadow fell over them.

Acting on pure animal panic, Echo popped the plastic case into her mouth. The edges clicked against her teeth, cool and bitter. She shoved it into the soft pocket of her cheek, jaw clenched tight.

Boots crunched on shattered glass nearby.

The giant from the blockade stood over them, a towering silhouette against the riot of flashing lights. “Step aside,” he commanded. His voice was a deep, resonant baritone with an exotic accent she couldn’t place—velvet over steel. He gently but firmly lifted Echo and set her back on her feet, away from Kyra, before gesturing to a team in full hazmat gear. They descended on Kyra, sealing her into a mobile containment unit with chilling efficiency.

When the officer turned back, Echo had already scrambled to other side of the street behind Plague and Ghost, using them as a shield.

“What are you children doing out so late?” he asked, his gaze sweeping over them.

Plague swallowed hard, his voice trembling. “Did they… just come out of the Forbidden Zone?”

The man’s lips curved into a calm, unnerving smile. “No. No one survives the Zone. They were caught attempting entry. For their own safety, we must apprehend them for decontamination.” He lit a cigarette, the match flaring orange. The smoke that drifted from his lips carried the unsettling perfume of clove. “Do you know them?”

The three exchanged a look. “No,” they lied in unison.

The man’s piercing gaze narrowed, settling on Echo. “Why are you are out past curfew.”

She squeaked, trying to shrink behind Plague. “W-we’re going to the hospital. To see a friend.”

His eyes followed her nervous glance toward the looming glass tower of Jae Won University Hospital. “Ah. The baseball player. Lathandro.” His smile didn’t waver. “Room C, isn’t it? I heard he… caught on fire.”

A collective shiver ran down their spines. He knew.

Before anyone could react, the officer’s hand shot out and clamped around Echo’s. "You have something that doesn't belong to you."
His grip was like iron. With a sickening pop of her knuckles, he pried her fingers open. The decoy chip she’d palmed clattered to the pavement. He brought his boot down hard, grinding it into glittering dust.

His smile never reaching his eyes. He blew another plume of spiced smoke into their faces. “Visiting hours are over. Go home. Forget what you saw tonight.”

He turned and walked toward the sounds of Kyle still struggling against the other officers. As he passed, the streetlights above him flickered and dimmed.

In the sudden gloom, Ghost’s hands moved, his halo gloves projecting the translation.

“His badge. It was strange.” The projected words hung in the clove-scented air. “A cobra swallowing a ball.”

The three of them stood frozen, the officer’s final, unspoken threat hanging over them. Their simple walk had spiraled into chaos, but one thing was now terrifyingly clear: Lisa wasn’t the enemy. She was fighting for Jihoon.

And the boy they were trying to save was already in the sights of the most dangerous power in New Seoul.

One more chapter until we hit the end of Escape from Club Apophis Season 2. It's been grueling. Necrotize: The Pest Patrol

STORYLINE: Lieutenant Gooch was a hired mercenary for a very dirty job, -- the Pest Patrol for the Scheol Nebula Outpost 943. He threw the last noxious alien egg he found on the ground. The slime was all over this fingers. He angrily tried to wipe it off and called his commanding officer. “If you send me on one more damn mission investigate space herpes, I quit!" A faux friendly voice responded, "Buddy..., buddy, calm down. You’re not the first solider who threatened to desert, why do you think we took your passport? No passport, No travel." Gooch roared and threw his communicator against the brick wall with such force, it shattered on impact. He sunk down in the chair, defeated. "This is bad.” The strange purple egg at his foot began to vibrate and shake. He looked down and saw seams on the slimy thing begin to split open. “VERY bad.”

Continuing in my mini series for Necrotize, Gooch was inspired by Cyber Goth and Aliens elements. The Raxlas back claws are bento by DeadBoy and have a texture hud. The gasmask by Psycho Byts  also includes a texture hud with many options to change the look of the mask. The shoulder armor by Dreamcatcher non-rigged and mod and you can change the texture of the metal and blood. And once more I am using the fun Petrichor Syrre eyes that have great alien type textures. In the setting is the Level 9 Xino Helmet that really change its colors and looks from Xenomorph, to Squid Game, to Oni or Samurai. And the eggs are by Torment which come with a little alien inside and textures options. If you haven't been to Necrotize yet, hurry hurry. It will be ending this weekend!
