Cyber Fair: Escape from Club Apophis, 4

STORYLINE: One day ago, at Baseball Practice

The bat cracked like a whip.

Another ball soared past the outfield net, denting the fence. The batter didn’t even flinch. His body moved with frightening precision, hips snapping, arms fluid, as if something else was swinging through him.

“Who is that?” someone muttered near the dugout.

That’s when the high-pitched whirring answered. A sleek drone, pearlescent blue and humming with quiet excitement, zipped into view and hovered ten feet above the field. On its glossy chassis, the glowing insignia of The HEXA Herald, the university’s omni-channel newsstream, blinked to life.

SUBJECT OF INTEREST: UNREGISTERED PLAYER? UNKNOWN TALENT?

“Zoom and enhance,” chirped a girl’s voice through the drone's speaker. “Is that... our team?”

The bot adjusted its lens, capturing the impressive player’s stance and the datapoints pulsing from his bat’s smart-core. An on-field player laughed: “Yo, Lathandro! Leave some fence for the rest of us!”

The drone froze mid-hover.

“Did he say Lathandro?” the voice asked, amused. “That can’t be right… Wait. Did the coach say it too? Rewind five minutes.”

The bot rewound.

"ROOKIE ROLL CALL!" Coach’s gravelly voice bellowed. “Lee? Minwoo? Kang? Sohyeon? Lathandro?”

Jihoon’s voice, calm and automatic: “Here.”

A pause. Then a gasp. “Oh my cyber-soul. That’s not even a real name on file, is it? M10, scrape the registry.”

Another pause. Then the data appears:

LATHANDRO
TRANSFER: LISTED TWO WEEKS AGO
MAJOR: UNDECLARED
FILE ORIGIN: RESTRICTED ADMIN LEVEL

“Ohhh, this is a story,” the reporter whispered, her voice brimming with glee.

The drone zipped away, collecting interviews. Girls giggling behind their visors:

“He’s, like, part machine or something.”
“I swear his bat glows.”
“Did you see his gloves? They look like something out of a noir assassin sim!

When asked about the mysterious rookie ringer, the coach only grunted: "Lathandro? No, no. That’s Yoon Jihoon. He calls his bat ‘Lathandro,' like it’s some kinda good luck charm. Hell of a swing on that kid. Hey, ... I don’t ask questions. I’m only interested in results.”

“Ahhhh, I see. So Lathandro is the bat,” the reporter said, barely hiding a smirk. The moment the mystery boy hit the ball, she knew he was marketable.

She already had her headline.

Later, that night — livestream from Jae Won Stadium

The HEXA Herald’s stream overlay sparkled to life. A stunning crimson glass cyborg girl with antennae, slick letterman jacket, and oversized holographic-enabled sneakers sat on the bleachers, holding a mic that gleamed like polished metal.

“Hey there, Dragonlets! It’s your girl, Reporter Lisa Liemawr, with Bot M10,” she winked. “Coming to you live from Jae Won Stadium, where I just discovered an incredible talent!"

M10 projected a montage of Jihoon’s footage: the swing in slo-mo, the glowing bat, the dented fence.

"...Mysterious, gorgeous, and slightly terrifying. It's... Lathandro!”

The floating bot squeaked happily beside her.

“And guess what?” Lisa grinned, raising one foot toward the camera. “There’s already merch! Check out these totally outrageous AHEGAO Lathandro slippers!”

She kicked her feet back and forth—the slippers, black and white with exaggerated cartoonish Jihoon faces, complete with drooling tongues and googly eyes, jiggled like a toy.

“He hates them. Like, absolutely hates them. Which is why I ordered ten more pairs!”

She leaned in, stage-whispering, “Naturally, they’re selling like hotcakes. Grab yours before the Friday opener and wear them loud, proud, and slightly cursed. Just 3,600 credits. Buy it now!”

Bot M10 flashed the QR code in midair with a happy ding.

“Lathandro’s legend is just getting started,” Lisa purred. “And The HEXA Herald has the exclusive!”

Laughs.  This was so crazy fun to do. Thanks to my fellow Blogger Bats, Aarya and Akira, for brainstorming and encouraging this wacky post.   ... The REKT Glass Automata is very cool. It come with cyborg skeleton and exoskeleton of glass. With the detailed image of the texture hud you can change the colors of the various parts. It's mod, so I rezzed the Exo Arms to hide the arms so they wouldn't clip the jacket.   ...Speaking of, the Pallas jacket and pants is by Kira. It has a wealth of color options. I went with a letter jacket type look instead of a cyberpunk style.   ...The Ursidxe Hair, Digital V2, worked perfectly with the Paw Paw headphones, BTRFLK-X01. The hair has many textures and streak options. The headphones come with butterfly wings, but you can hide them like I did. It also has a lot of texture options.   ...The Antenna-like horns, Tech Horn by {ID}, and the bridge augment add even more Reporter on the Scene type of vibe. They include texture options.  ...The eyes are Pixelated. Arcade Eyes, by IKON. They look smooth from the distance, but get up close and you get that 8 Bit artificial feeling.   ...The Face Implants are a tattooo layer by Physique X. They include a few options for different internal views and color wires.   ...The sunny college girl skin is Kyka by GLOOM. It's very nice, and I love the many color options. I used the Dracula, and then tinted the face to match the glass body as closely as I could. Then I made the skin Fulbright with a slight glow to match the head and body. Pretty cool trick!   ... M10 is the InkMe Space Robot 10. You Rez on the ground and click him to start his wander. The face blinks and glows.   ...But you guys want to talk about the funny shoes right? Diaboli Design's Mindbreak Slippers are another wild and eye-catching pair of shoes. This time with an anime face on it, making uh... funny faces. lol Lots of color and animation options, rigged. and unrigged.

Necrotize: Revenge of the Small Blue Planet

STORYLINE: The Caretaker had been asleep at the spaceship controls, his hand still resting on a full belly. He had a satisfied smirk still on his face from eating the forbidden fruit from a quarantined planet.  Other than the small blue planet being infested with life, he saw no harm in stopping for a quick tasty organic meal. But as his eyes snapped open and stared in shock at the angrily blinking monitors of the colony ship, he knew he had made a grave mistake. The ship was making an eerie mechanical bleep in a repeating rhythm that seemed to be counting the passing of time. His monitor was glitching and forming a pattern. He couldn’t read the alien language that spelled out, “Welcome to Earth Asshole,” but he did recognize the skull pattern of the monkey creature he ate. It was laughing. Was it mocking him? More alarms began to blare. Lights flickered. He looked around in disbelief. No way did that primitive culture have a Planetary Defense. There was no armada. What was happening? A red alarm began to flash. Hull breach in Pod Bay 94. He grabbed a weapon and raced there. The doors were jammed. He forced it open, and was immediately struck with swirling wind and sparks. On top of a pod was some kind of alien technology bot destroying his precious cargo! And it was rapidly multiplying, building more copies of itself from parts of the ship! What was it? Malevolent Artificial Intelligence? Horrifying! He leapt inside to maelstrom to quickly do what must be done. If he survived, he would never again question the quarantine bans.

Necrotize's finale is tomorrow, don't miss all cool alien and cyber horror themed creations and gifts! This image was inspired by items at the event, and a twist on the classic War or the Worlds trope: "germs save the Earth!" But in my version, its our AI that mounts the attack. Our Cute Little Hero is a Classic Macintosh on spider legs by Shard. Its an Animesh pet you can wear with texture options to have him wear a ghost sheet, and of course there are blood spatter options. Love him! I'm wearing the Aliens Convent themed Observer outfit by Somnium. It's a complete outfit including hands, so you really only need to make sure the head fits for any style avatar to wear it. The Xenomorph-like  Helmet by Ivy includes tattoo layers for shading on the face, and texture change hud. The grey Fralin skin by Stringer Mausoleum is perfect for the Caretaker and its EvoX too. The Symbiote Scissor weapon by Artemisia has 2 huds for textures and attack animations. The Skybox and Pods are by Celeste. They are both mod which was super handy for me to change things up a bit to create the inside of large alien spaceship. Adding to the organic feel of the ship,  is What's Lost Spirit's Fear buildings that function as pillars lining the cargo bay and acting as the main pod pillar.

Midnight Order: Scandalous

STORYLINE: Stop the Presses! Oh, my dear dark hearted readers of Midnight Magazine, today is a Daily Scandal for the record books! Remember how, with her engagement to the King, the Queen of the Succubi promised to be a shiny example of Dark Camelot's high minded ideals? Oh but dear readers, you know where this is heading or this column wouldn’t be called the Daily Scandal! Our intrepid photog captured on camera the Queen's secret rendezvous with someone who is definitely not a friend to succubi! In fact, he is the last person you would expect to become entangled with one. Yes, you heard me right. The White Knight, an unstoppable enforcer of justice and punisher of the wicked, was caught at the castle in the throws of passion drinking the Queen's blood right under the King's nose! It's a Shocker! Could the rumors be true its not the King’s awesome power that keeps the White Knight in line? Oh my, the taste of that sweet, sweet seductive succubi blood must be quite a weakness for our nocturnal Lancelot. Stay Tuned, dear Readers, as we confront the King with this shocking image!

Hahaha This is was a fun image to do, 2nd in my Midnight Magazine series. Many thanks to Aarya Phantomhive for teaming up with me for this. There is another version of this image that shows more of the setting, be looking for it!

Engine Room: The Robotic Burlesque

STORYLINE: The younger brother of the Marquess of Waterford, Lord Berksford, was throughly obsessed with automatons. He studied the masters and tinkered endlessly in his workshop. The result of all his work? In true scandalous fashion, (his big brother would be proud), he debuted The Robotic Burlesque to much fanfair. The show was the talk of the town. Berksford tolled not for fame, but for his own amusement. Sure his brother every now and then came with special requests, but it seemed innocent to him and he liked the challenge as much as the revenue. I mean what Gent wouldn't want giant spider legs to leap over tall buildings, right? When the police busted down his door and arrested Berksford for the Spring Heeled Jack Murders,  ... he was completely surprised.

The Strange Case of Dr Oliver Paynesworth

Death Row Designs will be delivering another fun gacha and hunt for Halloween this year. The theme this time is Asylum. This is my entry to DRD's the "Join the Family" contest. I brought out one of my favorite asylum dwelling characters. Enjoy. Style Credits below the story.

The Strange Case of Dr Oliver Paynesworth 

(as told by the Admitting Nurse at the Rosewood Asylum)

It had been an ordinary day at the Rosewood Asylum when the town’s respected general practice doctor, Dr Oliver Paynesworth, strolled past me without a word, not even a Hello, and disappeared down the long of hall of Rosewood’s worst behaved residents, otherwise known as the "inmates." Of course I went to fetch him, since we don’t allow visitors to that wing of the asylum. 

I discovered him in the oddest place. He had taken the last room to the right and barricaded the door with the back of a chair so that I could not open it. I looked through the glass peephole and saw him, just sitting in the middle of the room on the floor with a vacant look in his eyes.

“Excuse me Dr Oliver, What are you doing? Is there something wrong?”

He didn’t look at me as he said in a hallow voice, “I am admitting myself. I am a danger to society. Please leave me alone.”

Alarmed, I fetched the director of the Institution. He spoke to the Doctor for some time before he came back out shaking his head. “Nurse, can you please check into this?” He had filled out a form to accept Dr Oliver and wrote that the Dr believed he could kill with a mere thought. He blamed himself for his fiancé’s death after she broke up their engagement. He wanted me to call her doctor to check if the story was true. 

Dr Oliver’s case turned out to be a sad example of the ravages of grief, most likely driven by intense regret that his last words to his fiancé were, "I hope you die." Turns out she had just discovered her diagnosis of terminal cancer and couldn’t bring herself to tell him, so she abruptly broke off their engagement without explanation. We figured after some grief counseling, and revealing the truth of why she ended their relationship, he would return to normal. But sadly, that’s not what happened.

One day we found him in a pool of blood. He had cut off his own legs with exceptional surgical skill. What he used, we have no clue, but it must have been a very large sharp blade. We searched high and low for this dangerous weapon but could never discover where he had hidden it. He was ranting on and on about offering his legs to Death in exchange for bringing his beloved back to life.

He had clearly taken a turn for the worse. 

We were able to stop the bleeding. Once he had recovered, we gave him a wheelchair and fitted him with new prosthetic legs. I think Dr Rosewood held hope he could save his old friend.

As the months passed, Dr Oliver would sit on the floor, not eating, or speaking…. Other "inmates" requested to be transferred away from his unsettling dark aura. Except one. She requested to be moved directly across from him. In truth, she was here because she was in so much pain her family couldn't care for her. She was often yelling across the hall, begging Dr Oliver to kill her. If he heard her, I don’t know. He was covered in dust by then. Cobwebs hung from his eyelashes too. I thought he was long dead and everyone was too scared to go in and check.

But he was not dead.

The morning on the 19th, I discovered front door of the Rosewood Asylum was open. No "inmates" escaped. No, instead they were all yelling, crying, and cowering their rooms. When I reached the last door on the right, it was open. Dr Oliver was gone. There was no sign of him. I checked across the hall and the lady was still locked inside her room. No one entered, but she was clearly dead. White as a sheet. And smiling.

It was creepy. We closed off that cursed wing of Rosewood. No one ever did see Dr Oliver Paynesworth again. The only clue we had as to what became of him was a note left on the floor.

Wizarding Faire 2020: First Day of School

STORYLINE: Fennimore's parents told him he had to take his little cousin Willow with him to Hogwarts. She was shy and worried about getting lost in the train station. When he didn't offer his hand for her to hold, she held onto his shirt tail instead. "I'm going to be in Ravenclaw too, Fenny!" she shouted over the busy noise. "We can have lunch and dinner together everyday!" But he could hardly stay mad at her. When he disappeared into the wall at platform 9 3/4, she gasped. Her eyes shone brightly. It reminded him of his first time going to Hogwarts. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to help her out.

Wizarding Faire is so full of good stuff to inspire, it can be hard to pick a theme! STORYLINE: Hagrid was awoken by a sudden freak chill in the summer night air. He was grabbing his thickest blanket when he heard a loud bang in the other room followed by the startled squawks of the baby hippogriffs. "Off! Off! Get off me!" The home invader was none other than sixth year student Fennimore who was busy waving his wand wildly. "Hagrid! HAGRID! Help me!" Fennimore was firing off ill-thought spells in an attempt to loosen the grip of the snake coiled tight around him. "Easy now. Don' yeh worry, Fenny. Once ye stop all that yippin', she'll relax. She's more scared then yew, and twice as cold."

The Wizarding Faire is back! Grab your brooms, don your house colors and race down to Mischief Managed to see all the wonderful creations. Hooray! This post was inspired by Second Spaces' Game Keeper Clutter, and these two wonderful creatures, the pygmy hippogriff by banana peel, and wearable animesh ohcami by Clover.

I just love this event and Mischief Managed. Its one of the best roleplay sims in SL. The details with so many rooms, areas, places, and mysteries and secret passages... its just a dream. You could spend days just exploring it. The role players are all great people with a passion for the story. So many good times are had, and players progress through the school years, and some become teachers themselves. They recently expanded and added a 2nd sim. 2065: Kujo of the Cyber Mafia

STORYLINE: High above the busy streets of Insilico, a man's laughter rang out from the most plush penthouse of the city. Kujo, ringleader of the Cyber Mafia, was plugged into an expensive VR gaming rig. A silent android watched him in the otherwise empty room as he twisted and dodged attacks from some unseen enemy. "Hey, Gertie," he yelled a little too loudly, "I haven't had this much fun since I was a little shit in the global games tourney." The android nodded politely. "Superior technique, Master. No one will suspect the mighty EVA is piloted by a human this time." The droid turned to look at the flickering security monitors from her master's overhyped Death Match: Battle Bot EVA vs a bona-fide Creature of the Night. No one thought the vampire would win, it looked like it was starved to death. Interest in the fight was remarkably high. Perhaps because it was so rare to see a living Nosferatu. They were thought extinct long ago. She looked at the massive number of bets pouring in from the net. "Everything is proceeding to plan. EVA is heavily favored to win." Kujo laughed, "I think its time EVA stumbled, don't you?" He faked a trip. Gertie watched silently as the vampire took advantage. It made quick work of Eva, then leapt into the screaming crowd to begin feasting on them. Gertie turned away from the carnage. Was it wise to let that... thing, live? Wait. She turned to the haloscreen of the VIP viewing boxes. Fights were breaking out. "Master look!" she pointed. They both saw it at the same time. The display case of Kujo's most prized possession, the Yata no Kagami, was shattered as a gambler tossed a loan shark into the display. Kujo quickly unhooked himself from the rig. Fury blazed in his cybernetically enhanced eyes, "Ready my copter, NOW!"

The Real Prince Charming

STORYLINE: Perhaps you have heard the story of Cinderella. But what you haven't heard is the real tale. There are no such thing as magic and fairy godmothers. No, this story has its own special magic, albeit a very human one. You see it all began when the castle Chimney Sweep was dismissed for the evening, since he was not needed during the grand ball. As he was walking home, he heard the heart aching sobs of the only young girl in town not at the ball....

STORYLINE: Brilliant white light penetrated the dreary halls of the underworld. It felt warm to the Ghost Lady. She closed her eyes and sighed. It was so peaceful standing in its radiance. Souls of the dead shuffled past her towards the light, drawn by instinct like moths to a flame. She suddenly opened her eyes and turned to an elderly woman. "What do you think the light is?" The woman smiled at her, "Why its the light of heaven, my dear." "No, no," the nearby teenager cut her off, "It's a birth canal. Through the tunnel into the light we live again." A man scoffed and waved them off, "I have to say, as a scientist, its a star. Everyone who ever lived, and anything you ever saw, was born in the heart of a star. So maybe, just maybe, we return to it. Matter back into energy," he shrugged. She stood soundlessly, watching them disappear one by one into the light. Everyday she stood here at the portal waiting for her beloved Oliver to return. And everyday she wondered what lay beyond light. It was a mystery she would never solve. She was trapped between the worlds of the living and the dead. Was it really a blessing to be loved by a Reaper?

The last round of the much beloved Fantasy Gacha Carnival is going on now. This has been one of my all time favorite events in SL. Bats in the Cave

STORYLINE: So he was little obsessed with swords, no big deal. So shiny and sharp, he couldn't help himself. He collected them like a rat building a nest. They said he was "batty" or had "bats in the cave" which was just another way to say "a screw loose." But he had to admit, there just something cool about bats. They hid in caves and only came out at night. A cave was a great place to hide his collection. In fact, he decided the bat would be his totem animal. Yeah. A rat that can fly. He liked it, it was fitting.

Release the Bats! This past Sunday was World Goth Day, and in honor of the event I thought it would be fun to take a trip to the Batcave. *winks* Fantasy Gacha Carnival is back. Shown above is excellent new Gladiator FGC gacha by Gabriel that includes collar, boots, pants, belt, and gloves. Each items comes in a fit for Slink, TMP, Niramyth, or classic avatar. Each item is fitted, so it will conform your shape. Also at FGC, is the nice Hands of Fate Sword by Random Matter. It's a prop sword, and a very nice one to have.  From the 2nd round of Epicene is the fun Bat Helmet by Krova. Its non-rigged, so you can edit it for a a good fit.  Also at Epicene is the Sacred Tattoo by Dappa.  I used it along with the Fallen Gods Fallenstien Demon tattoo for 2 toned skin. The main body color is actually the new Fallen Gods pink skin Sidera Rose on sale at The Fantasy Collective.  Matching that pink skin is the Remarkable Oblivion Wocky Wings from the Alice in the Wonderland gacha. The older Remarkable Oblivion Malificient Head Wings you can still find in the marketplace.  From We <3 Roleplay is wicked Iron Throne by Death Row Designs. I love this original take on the Iron Throne. It includes single poses for male, and female, couples, and adult.  This picture was taken in the Fanatik mesh cave.

The Forgotten Kohaku River

STORYLINE: For hours he would stand perfectly still in a random body of water. Was this his home? He was a water spirit, yes, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not remember if this was his lake, his pond, or his river. No place was familiar. Had his home been destroyed? He didn't know. As long as his name was lost to him, so too were his memories.

The Fantasy Gacha Carnival is back! Head over to the official website and flickr group for images of all the wonderful goodies you can win. Inspiring this post is the amazing Cureless Dragon ultrarare. It comes with a hud to change the colors of the body, whiskers, horns, eyes, teeth, and tongue to either white, black, red or green. It's an attachment you can scale for a good fit.  From AIR is the gorgeous weeping Shidare Sakura tree. The detail of each flower is lovely. It's perfect for gardens or even scaled down as bonsai. It comes in white, pink, blue, or black petals. It includes a hanging tassel for the tree that can change to red, plink, blue, white, yellow, or black and gold or silver metal. There are 4 bonus twig sprigs, and 3 hanging flowers.  Also used by AIR is the hanging mouth tassel gacha, Rin.  Matching up nicely with the tree is the wearable sakura petal storm by Naminoke. It spirals around the body in a magical way and lines up nice with the Dragon familiar too.  For fans of Miyazaki's Spirited Away, you might have spotted this is my take on Haku. For his bob hairstyle, I used the Freya hair from Wasabi Pills, and for his outfit I used the Suikan by BareRose. I edited the top to remove the undershirt and sleeves.  Shown below the May Soul's Blindfold from the Akira gacha at the Fantasy Gacha Carnival. Its non-rigged so you can adjust the fit. The setting for this picture was taken at LEA13 Miyako jima Island.

Harajuku Boy

Once in a while I get a really good challenge that takes me outside my usual comfort zone. This post was inspired by Swagga's Harajuku Boy. Harajuku is a district in Japan where cosplay meets innovative streetwear. It's a great place for people to dress up and hang out with their friends. One Harajuku style that has really taken off is Decora. (It's like the Lisa Frank of fashion styles. lol) It's colorful, youthful, mismatched, and over-the-top in accessories. Basically it turns fashion into a toy, in fact, wearing some toys is a good idea too. lol And it's not just for girls, the guys are rocking this whimsical style too. The Swagga Harajuku Boy shirt, pants, and jewelry are on sale now at Sanarae. You can pick them up in either of the 3 color options for shirts and pants.  Adding a cool J-rock touch to the look is the Mateo hair by Ayashi. I used the wild colors from the Summer pack.  Animated Chainsaw by Nerox is a gacha at the Gacha Garden. From Jian is the delightful Silly Shibes gacha. This little guy will follow you and sit when you sit. He even barks every now and then.  The swagga pants come with a lower leg, but I wanted to add the legwarmers by Krankhaus. They are actually made for Avatar 2, but I was able to make them work. They come with a hud with many excellent and colorful texture options.  From NOMAD is the Tossing Barrels arcade game backpack. It's animated! Very cool. From Neverwish is an older gacha with fun shoes that work great for the Decora. Sometime in the near future, a new 2016 version of the shoes will be released. From Apple May is the bandaid gacha. You can find it at her mainstore in the guys gacha section.  From [ni.Ju] are the face sticker stars gacha, and the group gift metallic nails appliers. Fantasy Faire: The Golden General

STORYLINE: As surely as the Nile flooded each year, Horemheb was certain he was destined for greatness. He was born with gold hair and eyes. The faithful of the Two Lands took his golden features as a sign, for they believed the gods had skin of gold. Horemheb ascended quickly up the ranks of the army as a skilled warrior and strategist. However when he reached the pinnacle of his career, General of Pharaoh's army, chaos struck. The Heretic King denounced all the Gods of Egypt and declared the Sun the one true god. Enraged, Horemheb stormed into the darkest depths of the Holy of Holies. It was sacrilege for anyone to enter except the high priest. Horemheb was not afraid. He demanded the gods intervene immediately. A chill blew into the chamber. From the mist a mysterious voice whispered, "If you strike down King Akhenaten, Queen Nefertiti, and all the Children of the Sun.... a new nation will be born from you, the Children of the Moon." Horemheb smiled. He thought the God had blessed him and his secret plan to take matters into his own hands. Afterall, with all the royals and their followers eliminated, he would be next in line for the throne. He could restore the old religion. However the voice had not issued a blessing, it was a dire warning his cruel ambitions would invoke a terrible curse.

Today is the last day of the Fantasy Faire, and I'm please to bring you a theme dear to my heart, Ancient Egypt. Fallen Gods has created the Golden Delta sim at Fantasy Faire.
