STORYLINE: Forbidden Zone border. A dark alleyway. Noon.
The street reeked of ozone, coffee, and fresh blood. Overturned vending machines lined the dirty cement alley. One knocked over vending machine bled shattered mugs across the concrete, their porcelain shards scattered like broken teeth. In the darkest corner, a group of ghouls hunched over a fresh kill.
A hush fell over the landscape as if all sound had suddenly been sucked out of the air.
One creature looked up. A human hand hung limp from its bloodstained jaws.
The asphalt began to vibrate with a deep hum. Low. Inhuman. Glass shook. The surface of spilled coffee rippled in waves.
The other ghouls stopped feeding and looked towards the sound.
A low unnatural fog drifted into the alleyway, rolling over the shattered mugs like an undulating white carpet.
The creatures stood, backing away from their feast.
Then they saw it. Gold eyes burned through the haze like hellfire.
A blur of motion. A flash of white. Jaws. Claws. The sickening sounds of tearing flesh. Monstrous howls echoed off the walls.
Standing at the mouth of the alleyway was a towering figure clad in a white Neu Seoul Police uniform, his low-slung cap throwing his face in shadow. Behind him, a black-and-white police hovercar idled above the fog, red and blue lights flashing.
The remaining ghouls burst through the mist, rushing the man all at once.
He didn’t flinch. His arm swept upward.
Too fast.
An energy field snapped open, the face of Sekhmet blazing within.
The first ghoul’s claws struck its energy barrier and skated off in a blinding spray of blue sparks.
The ghouls broke formation, but it was too late.
A cyberblade sliced through the pack with lethal heat.
The fight was over before it began.
The last ghoul dropped to its knees. “Have mercy..." its dry throat croaked. “My King, we starve..." The officer looked down. His cyberblade flashed.
The severed head rolled across the slick pavement, bumping gently against the man’s heavy black boot. One milky eye stared upward at him in absolute horror. Then it faded, unfocused.
A mechanical voice spoke from the alley. “My King, all escapees are eliminated.”
A glossy white lioness padded lightly out of the fog, its metallic jaws splattered in black fluid. It paused before the man, and dropped a severed ghoul arm onto the pavement like a cat bringing a gift.
The man wiped the dripping black blood from his blade’s edge before both the sword and shield folded neatly back into his gauntlets. He unhooked his faceplate, revealing a handsome, chiseled visage. His gold eyes held the terrifying weight of a thousand lifetimes.
A crowd had gathered at the edge of the alley, recording the scene on lifted wrists and high-gain ocular implants.
A woman near the front lowered her camera slightly. Her recording kept running, but her smile vanished. She was not looking at the hero. She was staring at the strange badge on his jacket. A cobra with its fangs bared, swallowing the sun.
The Ruler of the Night was suddenly beside her.
A blast of wind whipped her hair across her face.
He snatched the camera from her hand and crushed it in his palm as if it were paper.
She gasped, her heel slipping in gore as she staggered backward.
His smoldering gaze then swept over the crowd, locking on the merchants cowering behind the nearest carts.
“You should not be running food stalls in this sector,” his deep rumbling baritone could be felt as well as heard. “The perimeter is unsafe. All contraband is forfeit. Go home.”
No one moved.
“NOW.” He swept one arm across the nearest cart. Skewers of Korean BBQ tumbled into the gutter.
The merchants turned and fled down the avenue abandoning their carts.
The Ruler of the Night did not watch them go. His eyes were on the lioness. "What news have you on the boy?"
The robotic beast settled beside him.
“Observe,” it projected security footage onto a grimy wall. “It is exactly as you predicted, my King. Their escape remains undetected.”
The flickering image showed a tall, muscular red-haired guard carrying the sleeping boy, his long white hair trailing across the floor. The guard was looking left and right as he crept out of the screen.
“Rewind.”
The lioness obeyed. “The relevant footage of the comatose boy begins at 6:32 pm.”
“Zoom in.”
The footage zoomed in on Jihoon, focusing on mist beginning to roll off his body.
“At 6:42 pm, REM sleep indicators.”
The footage zoomed back out, revealing the guard collapsing.
“At 6:53 pm, sensors detected a spike of energy at the exact moment the guard fainted.”
“Hmm.” The Ruler pointed to the fallen guard. “A call for help.”
“Yes, my King. The boy has exhibited two of your gifts. The mist and the extremely rare Dream Sight. He is immobile, not helpless. Congratulations, my King. You have created a strong fledgling. Does the child know the rules of the Blood Bond?”
The Ruler did not reply.
A slow, ruthless smile touched his lips. “Cancel the ceremony.”
The lioness’ heavy titanium tail stopped its rhythmic swaying.
On him, The Ruler of the Night:
Jacket:TRK - Losttune_Jacket_LEGACYM, white [mesh](CyberFair)(399L)
Team: 7 students of Jae Won University, 6 remaining.
Location: GIN AESTHETICA™ plastic surgery clinic.
It was a tragedy in slow motion.
Ghost smelled it first. Clove smoke and a cold that didn't belong to the building. Something ancient was close. His hands flew up in a sharp, commanding gesture toward a nearby door, but no one was looking at his hands.
"Scatter!" Minjo yelled. "Rendezvous at the car in the Safe Zone!”
Ghost gripped her shoulder hard and stepped into her path. Speech was not an option. He mouthed a single, fierce command: No. Stronger together.
But without her glasses, she couldn't read his lips.
Click. Click. Click.
Heels in the distance echoed, sharp and unhurried. There was no time to argue. No time to herd them back together.
The team was already in motion. Five sets of frantic footsteps fragmented in different directions. His team, scattered. A second later, the heavy, synchronized thud of Enforcers echoed from the opposite end of the hall, moving to intercept.
Ghost took the wall. He activated his Gecko Grip, scaling the smooth vertical surface in two silent bounds. He shoved a ceiling tile aside and hauled himself into the dark ductwork. His Haloglove cast a pale blue light over a nest of thick white cables. He didn't hesitate. He grabbed the primary data bundle and ripped it from its housing just as Minjo rounded the far corner.
Below him, the red eyes of the security cameras flickered and died.
It was a brutal, unrefined solution, but it blinded the hunters. It gave his pack a fighting chance.
Ghost popped the Cursed Energy battery from his Haloglove and slid it into his Nano Stealth Cloak. Communication was a luxury. Stealth was survival. The high-tech fabric flickered with violent static, and then, pixel by pixel, he dissolved into the dark architecture of the ceiling.
Click. Click. Stop. MasterGin stepped into the corridor directly beneath the vent.
Clove smoke drifted upwards. Then the silence. The silence was the worst part.
Ghost’s lungs locked tight. The air pressure in the hallway seemed to drop, stolen entirely by the monster standing below. A false surgeon. A vain god. The kind of monster whose presence warped the room around him. In that moment, Ghost finally understood how Jihoon had been seduced by Monstrum.
The powerful vampire’s icy gaze swept the dead cameras. He sensed the blind spot.
Ghost snapped his eyes shut. He clamped down on his own biology, willing his heartbeat into a slow, dormant rhythm. It was a Shinobi discipline meant for surviving underwater. His chest burned with the need for oxygen. His internal clock ticked away the longest twenty seconds of his life.
Finally, the heels clicked into an adjacent consultation room.
Ghost let out one slow breath through his nose. He gave it three more seconds, listening for the pause of someone turning back, before dropping weightlessly to the floor. He pressed his ear against the cold white marble wall. MasterGin's voice came through, sharp enough to cut. "...those cameras are worth more than a hundred of you! Either restore my cameras immediately, or explain to me why I continue paying you!" A second later, a new command, "Scratch that. Weld the sewer access doors shut. Permanently!"
Ghost pulled back from the wall. His mind mapped the variables. One exit. One priority.
He moved.
He sprinted back the way MasterGin had come, moving soundlessly toward a new set of approaching footsteps. The maintenance crew. Ghost had memorized the labyrinth of the Clinic. He knew exactly where the choke points were. He slipped into an alcove and waited.
The crew rushed past. One man lagged heavily behind the rest, panting under the massive weight of a multi-arm mechanical welding unit strapped to his back.
Perfect.
Ghost transferred the Cursed Energy battery from his cloak back to his Haloglove. Stealth was no longer needed. A weapon was.
He stepped from the shadows directly behind the straggler. He pressed two fingers to the exposed skin of the man's neck and delivered a maximum voltage jolt from his glove. The man folded without a sound. Ghost caught the heavy equipment before it could hit the floor and dragged the unconscious body into a dark supply closet.
Within ninety seconds, Ghost was wearing the straggler’s red and black uniform, and strapped the heavy welding apparatus on. He pulled the dark welding visor down over his face and sprinted to catch up with the crew, forcing his lungs to heave in loud, ragged pants.
The Crew Leader spun around. "You! What's wrong with you, are you dying?"
Ghost nodded, slumped his shoulders, and feigned breathlessness. It was a flawless cover for his muteness.
The Crew Leader turned away, disgusted.
When they reached the sewer access door, Ghost pushed to the front. The leader ordered him to lock down the compromised digital kiosk and weld the door shut, while the main crew handled the heavy elevator doors nearby.
Ghost knelt by the panel. He didn’t fix the kiosk. His gloved fingers flew across the exposed circuitry, completing his earlier hack, a backdoor bypass. Then he engaged the welding torch. He laid down a line of sparks on the doorframe that looked convincing to the naked eye but actually left the door completely unsealed.
"Move!" the Crew Leader barked. "Find the camera short!"
Ghost shuffled after them, disgruntled and bored. As they swept the next corridor, he deliberately lingered behind to cross the wires of a secondary junction box, shorting out a fresh row of cameras.
The Crew Leader threw his hands up in enraged confusion, screaming into his halophone about a cascading system failure.
In the chaos, Ghost stepped backward into a shadow and vanished.
By the access door, he paused and graded his performance. Approximately half of the clinic's surveillance network was disabled, and the team's escape route remained intact.
Before leaving, he projected from his Haloglove the underground map. Satisfied he knew the way, heplunged into the dark labyrinth with his Gecko Grip reactivated.
Scrambling across the vaulted stone like a spider, he was careful to avoid the foul, rushing water below and the toxic bioluminescent fungi clinging to the walls.
Higher and higher he climbed through the gloom. Left. Straight. Another left. Then a hard turn right.
Finally the sterile chill of the clinic faded, replaced by a growing scent of rot and humidity.
A large cavern opened up. The Safe Zone.
The air felt different here. Cleaner. Quieter. The pressure that haunted the rest of the sewer was absent, as though the safe zone itself refused to respect Monstrum’s authority.
He dropped silently to a limestone slab near the 1929 Ford Coupe, using the glow of his haloglove to cut through the dark. The car was still smoking, frozen in the violent aftermath of a crash that happened a century ago. Inside, a body sat perfectly still, preserved by whatever force kept the car from rusting. High above the wreckage, a rebel had slashed the Monstrum logo with red ink.
Ghost stood still for a moment and let his body recalibrate. The ambient hum that had been pressing against his skull since they entered the clinic was gone.
He scanned the damp cavern. The only sound was the rushing water of the drainage outflow.
No one else had made it.
He stood very still. The water rushed. Nothing.
He shoved the panic aside and reached for rage instead.
He unbuckled the heavy welding rig and let it drop to the stone with a loud echoing thud.
If he was the only one to reach the safe zone, then it was up to him to ruin whatever MasterGin was planning for Jihoon.
He pulled the toolkit from his belt and laid the instruments out in a perfect, disciplined row on the fender.
The dented hood groaned as he wrenched it upward. No engine block. No pistons. He already knew that. The carbon fiber lattice was still intact, the obsidian coils still spiraled around the ceramic core like ribs around a heart. The violet liquid still pulsed through its tubes in a slow, deliberate rhythm, the one that vibrated in the back of the teeth rather than the ears.
Minjo had called it an Entropy Drive.
Ghost had a different name for it.
A bomb.
He reached blindly to his right to grab his screwdriver.
Fingers met empty stone.
He frowned and shined the haloglove downward. The screwdriver was now sitting neatly on his left side.
He blinked, turning his head slowly, sweeping the empty, violet-lit cavern.
Nothing moved. Nothing breathed.
Ghost picked the tool up and placed it deliberately back on his right side.
Strange.
He turned his attention back to the engine.

STORYLINE: In the treetops of Madagascar, nestled amongst the vibrant leaves and swaying branches, lies the colorful village of the Owl Tribe. Their shaman, known as Ombiasy Rakoto, had long white dreadlocked hair and white tribal markings on his purple skin. From his staff swung a shrunken skull, a symbol of his power and connection to the spirits. Perched on his shoulder was the watchful white owl Kijabe who acted as his eyes and ears. Together, they kept a vigilant watch over the village, protecting their people from the evil Unweaver. But one day, a darkness fell upon the village, and the Unweaver's shadow crept closer. With his people in danger, the shaman knew he had to act fast. Summoning all of his strength and magic, Rakoto and Kijabe set out to battle the Unweaver.
I was inspired by the wonderful and colorful Africa inspired sim, Khumbla. I haven't seen a sim quite like that before at Fantasy Faire, and I look forward to seeing more creations by Novus Ascending.Something else that blew me away, was the Dobs Witch Doctor Staff. This is no normal staff, ...sure it has several animations built in from hold poses, to magical spells, and knocking people on the head... but what really is next level, is animesh! It moves... fabric, ropes, feathers, and skull all swing gently in the breeze. Just a wonderful effect. It makes my mind hurt to consider how it was animated. ....Because the tribe of Khumbla live in the trees, I had the idea to combine the idea with the Owl mask and Owl pet.
Sadly the Faire is ending today, but there is a lot to celebrate. Once more, the Fantasy Faire lived up to all the hype and then some. It raised $119,536 USD for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Well done Faire organizers, designers, vendors, entertainers, shoppers, gamers, adventurers, and role players. Kudos to you all!
STORYLINE: Only the pale light of the waning moon leaked into the darkness from broken rafters above. Footsteps echoed down the long stone corridor. Alucard summoned a candelabra and lit it with his dark powers. It was not so much for him, as he could see quite well in the night. Revealing himself in a friendly manner he hoped would assure his visitor he meant no harm. "I am Alucard, master of the castle," he bowed politely. The flickering light gleamed on his long golden locks. A bitter voice sneered at him, "Oh, I know who you are, Bloodsucker." The man pointed to the blood splatter covering Alucard, "The chosen one? The messiah foretold by prophecy? Ridiculous! You're the son of the devil himself, Dracula..." Alucard cut him off, "And the son of my mother, a human." Undeterred, the man spat, "Abomination! I will purge you from this world!" Alucard sighed, not this shit again.
I know I know, everyone is talking about the Gachapocalypse (me too!), but can we take a moment to swoon over the Gothic goodies at Midnight Order? So much awesome.... Midnight Order's halfway point is this weekend, new gifts will be put out and live DJ Friday the 6th , 2 - 4pm SL time, and at 7 - 9pm SL time, and on Saturday the 7th f2 - 4pm SL time, and at 7 - 9pm SL time. Midnight Order ends August 20th.
The image above was totally inspired by the classic Gothic creations this round, and of course Alucard from Castlevania. (Is the Castlevania Netflick series great or what?) For my picture above, I did Alucard more in style of the classic Symphony of the Night. He is wearing the Eternal top, pants and boots by Toksik. All items are mod, so I tinted the boot laces to gold. The gorgeous candelabra is by Reliquary and has texture hud to change all its textures. Smartly hidden on his right thigh are the Kosii Hunter Stakes and Holsters to bring down a big bad like Dracula. It is interactive, with a hud to trigger draw, flip and sheath animations. From a past MO round, is the beautifully created TF: Mort Veins BOM texture, - its perfect for any starving creature of the night. The Dhampir cape by Aii works so well here, its Bento and you can touch it to change it's built in animations. The background is the castle at No Salvation.

STORYLINE: The defenders of the natural world gathered their forces. Stepping before the howling troops was General Pa-Hin, Chief and Shamen of the Sioux Nation. His name meant porcupine. "Today is a day that will go down into legend," he began slowly, his booming voice echoing in the warehouse full of heavily armed Lycans. The rowdy beasts calmed down and looked up at their leader, hypnotized by his every word. "It is an honor you accept me as one of your own, and allow me to lead you. Today is the last day of the life-sucking blight upon the Earth. Now is our time!" A young wolf began to howl, and his peers chastised him for loosing his cool. His ears drooped. The general smiled benevolently at the excitable pup, then continued, "While our arrogant enemy is preoccupied with the human's war and petty squabbles for power among themselves, they have forgotten to protect their most precious members." He dramatically pointed his cane towards the Castle of the Elders in the distance, "Kill them and all their blood sucking slaves join them in oblivion." Rolling hoots and howls erupted. The ground shook below their pounding paws. But with one small wave of Pa-Hin's hand, they silenced again. "This task will fall to the hands of our new dear ally, the esteemed Vampire Hunter's Association. Their representative, Mademoiselle Jacqueline, only asks that we get her elite squad of assassins inside. It is our job to SMASH their walls and break their defenses to safely deliver the hunters inside." He hands her a scroll, "Thanks to this valuable map, her team knows exactly where the Fiends sleep."
This finale post was inspired by the dieselpunk offerings at the Engine Room and Indigenous Peoples Day. The porcupine jacket by Hotdog includes fits for men and women. The Butanik83 Life-support Boiler and matching gift Arm Pressirizer include a hud to change the textures. Seka eyepatch has a textures and matching Rusty nail septum is a gift I repurposed to be an earring. The crow headed walking cane is by The White Crow and includes a version that smackable weapon. STORYLINE: The mournful sounds of a pipe organ reverberated throughout the metal hull of the Nautilus. Captain Nemo's sour mood was made obvious to all. His submersible ship lay sunk on the ocean floor, wounded by a Kraken attack. They had been so close to finding the lost city of Atlantis! It was frustrating. But Captain Nemo could not be so easily defeated. They would make the necessary repairs and be underway on the hunt in less than a week.
Dive! Dive! Dive! Last call for the fun underwater steampunk round of Aengima. This image is of course a little homage to the 2000 Leagues Under the Sea. I was inspired by so many great items. The beautiful La Malvada Muder tattoo is lovely and full of interesting water themed elements. The Hat is by KiB designer, and Eyepath and Goatee by Badwolf. From Graveyard is the walking cane. And from Static are the whimsical animesh Nightmariner Lanterns. They are so fun to watch, but also come in a hold version and static props.
STORYLINE: Little Bunny was thirsty. Not wanting to disturb the party's host, she quietly made her way to the kitchen when the strangest thing happened, -- a tiny ghost with a bottle of wine flew up to her and filled her glass. But thats not all, she discovered all of Castle Hart's servant staff were tiny magical beings! She rubbed her eyes.... Surely someone had slipped an hallucinogen into her meal. It couldn't be real, could it?

STORYLINE: Grammy Hammy was excited. Tonight was her annual New Year's Eve party and all the neighborhood pups were invited. Just in time for the festivities, the mail delivered intricately craved miniature New Years decorations. She bounced happily to her little bonsai display and carefully added her latest little treasures. "There," she stepped back to admire her handiwork. It was just so adorable! Her special guests will be so delighted! ....Well maybe not the pale humorless male who always complained bitterly about being picked-up (he even bit her once!), but the girl was always cheerful and enjoyed being cuddled. Oh! It was almost sunset. The pups better hurry or they will miss it! It was only after the sunset on New Year's Eve that the mini Ninjas would become visible. They were strange looking creatures, tiny hairless apes (and not all that attractive if you asked her), but they were always welcome in her home as honored guests. Why? Because they were tireless protectors of children. Each year she did her best to honor them and thank them for their service.

STORYLINE: "Your training is almost complete but you lack, ...strength." It was these words, spoken by their Sensei, that set the Kitsune Twins on a mission to find the strongest man in the village. No Ninja squad could be complete with only two members. So they guessed their Sensei meant they needed to recruit someone strong to the group. Now as they returned, they could barely hold their excitement. "Master," they bowed deeply before the old nine tail fox. "We have found strength. Behold...." From the shadows stepped a tiny oni. The twins ears twitched nervously. "This is the Kuro Oni, little brother of the strongest in the village, the Ketsueki Oni. It's Kuro's dream to train under you and become a true ninja." Sensei stood. In his hand grew a bright ball of spirit flames. Suddenly he hurdled the flaming ball towards the little oni. Kuro's many hours of training kicked in and dodged the sudden attack. A smile grew on the old fox's face, "I accept you, Kuro. Just I as accepted your big brother, Ketsueki to my squad when we were both lads. Back then, he was no bigger then you are now. Welcome to the family."
STORYLINE: “You know too much to live," the rockstar's hand reached through the iron bars. His long fingers wrapped around his guide's throat. "Why risk confronting me this way? You could have accepted my offer and lived out the rest of your days a very wealthy man.” The old man’s heart thundered in his ears. His whole life he was in fear that one day he too would fall under the curse. "I needed to know," he whispered, hoping his voice sounded stronger than he felt, "The paintings in the castle...," It was getting harder for him to breath. "You are him, The Lion." The rockstar snarled and tightened his grip. "Wait!" the old man gasped. "Nanette, ...had a daughter." The rockstar's eyes flickered blue in confusion, his grip relaxed slightly. "The child was illegitimate. Your father gave the castle to Nanette, it was her child's birthright." The Lion stumbled backwards as if he had been punched. The old man caught his breath and continued, "I'm your great great grandson. And this," he whipped out his wallet and quickly flipped to a picture of a little boy who looked remarkably similar to The Lion. "Your family survives, just as this castle survives." The Lion snatched the picture and stared at it. A small tear of blood dropped down on it's glossy surface. "You are an exceptionally brave man, Monsieur Gustave." The Lion looked up once more at his host. This time wonder replaced malice in his eyes. His fingers traced the wrinkles on the old man's face that could easily have been his if he were mortal. Gustave breathed a little easier. Satisfied he was safe now, he unlocked the cell door. The Lion burst out, and pulled him into a tight embrace. "Thank you for telling me the truth."
Death Row's mainstore is under construction with a whole new look and layout. Right now you can shop for 50% refund on all your purchases. Also, retired gachaes have returned for a LIMITED time and are playable once more at the new store location (gachas like: gods of egypt, creature legs, circus, motel, geekmania, etc) Head over and check it out: Death Row Designs New Store. Also from Death Row, shown above are many of the excellent items from the Mystic Bastion gacha, you can find here. Right now it's semi-retired but could return at a future date. Last Ride has had three excellent limited edition outfits for men, two shown on this post. I love them! Be sure to watch the fun Last Ride flickr for news of any upcoming limited edition creations. Readers of the blog know I am a whore for thigh boots, and these LastStar ones are awesome. They are a new mesh version of the old popular prim ones. It comes with male and female, and is tintable, without or without the top flap. Awesome. The Bastet chair is the rare from the Pixicat Bast gacha. It comes with a hud to change the color to white, black, pink or red. You can still play it at the Pixicat mainstore. And lastly, the Bluebeard sword by Kalopsia is perfect for this image. It comes in clean or bloody, and when you touch it, you can choose one of 3 poses.
Shown above is the wonderfully detailed new mesh AIR monocle, Aria. It comes in either gold or silver. Both are mod, and come in right side or left side. Also, you can edit the hanging string for best position on poses. The Revolution Hat is from the Deadwool gacha. The cape is the Joffery gacha from Stitched. It works perfectly with the Regency outfit by Last Ride for a more early 1800s look. Right now their store is renovating but should be up soon. From Swagga is the also handy Leather Gloves that fit the The Mesh Project male body. Have you looked at just how beautiful this new skin, Tox, is for The Mesh Project head? I love the eyebrows and subtle shading on the nose and lips. But for this image, I used the bloody lips by Ghost'Ink. I hid the eyelashes on the TheMeshHead head and replaced them with the Gaeline mesh eyelashes. This allows me to have upper only lashes, and tint them a color other than default brown. I used the gradient texture so the tips are blond and roots brown/black. The Gaeline hud is very easy to use, so it not very hard to use the mesh lashes.
